6 Marvelous Micellar Cleansing Solutions from $14 to $80

Published On August 16, 2011 | Articles

I stayed with a girlfriend in Toronto over the weekend, and I was quite amazed at this bottle of clear liquid sitting on her vanity. Just one bottle.  I asked her about it (and tried it out, of course) and she told me that it’s an all-in-one makeup-removing, cleansing & toning solution.  Also, to my surprise one of my favorite blogs Call It Beauty just reviewed the Marcelle one yesterday! I’m in LOVE. No water, no rubbing, no irritating my sensitive skin- I ran out and purchased the Vichy one right away and my skin feels so calm and smooth!  I’m so excited to try it out and keep using this type of cleanser.  It’s also perfect for keeping on your nightstand with some cotton rounds and taking the day off right before your head hits your pillow (replace your rough, irritating makeup removing wipes with one of these)!

There’s something for everyone’s budget- have you ever heard or tried a micellar solution (aka cleansing water)?

It seems like you’re always changing skincare brands haha. I have a questions though, Jessica! I need new skincare products and I got myself the It’s Potent! Eye Cream from Benefit and I LOVE it, I also ordered 2 different anti-aging serums for the day and night. However, I was wondering, since I don’t really breakout and my skin is pretty nice, should I use a toner and acne treatment on my face? I was interested in getting the Murad toner and acne treatment gel. Also, what are your recommendations for day time moisturizers for people with combination skin like myself? I wanted something light, with SPF of maybe 30 and cruelty-free. Please help!

I know- I stayed with Clinique for years, but my skin just wasn’t handling it anymore. Then I tried Murad and it worked for a while and felt great, and I’ll still keep some of their products in my routine, but my skin was going haywire and I just need to find what works for me. Something simple and very kind to sensitive skin! The less products you use, the better. You COULD use a toner if you want that extra level of “clean” but I wouldn’t use a regular acne treatment, it may just irritate your skin and sensitize you. I use the Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion as a daily moisturizer and I love it, its really light and refreshing but theres no SPF…

Yes! I love the “Neutrogena Ultra Light” or something like that, it basically feels like water, its super light and meant for faces!

i think we already have cleansing water down here…i’ve read a review about it from another blog…so, you don’t need to use a toner for this kind of cleanser?

You really don’t NEED to do anything else, but I follow up with a toner & light moisturizer for a super clean & moisturized feeling

        thanks! :)

Do you have to buy these products online or do you know if they sell them at Sephora?

Most of them aren’t at Sephora but at drugstores :)

I love the la Roche posay one and I just bought the Nuxe 3 roses one, which smells amazing. I use mine in the morning as my main cleanser and in the evening to remove makeup before cleansing with a foaming cleanser. It gives my skin a break not to be cleansing with foaming cleanser twice a day.

That’s definitely what I think I need to do with my skin, I think mine is just so sensitive that the routine of such deep cleansing twice a day makes it go a bit wacko. So far so good!

What I don’t get is how it removes your makeup without having to be rinsed or anything. Because if I’m not rinsing with water & I’m not wiping it off with a wipe, where is it going? Logic says it’s still on my face. lol I am curious about it though, so I’m going to look into it. I’m sure there’s some kind of cosmetics voodoo that defies my logic & explains it all.

The term “micellar” means that the molecules in the water (because it is a solution, not just water) actually attract lipid based molecules (oil, makeup, impurities, etc) and actually pull it off your skin and onto the cotton pad. You do have to do it 2-3 times over your whole face if you wear a lot of makeup like myself, but it really does work without any water!

That definitely makes sense! And after doing some research, I’m no longer baffled. lol I am currently using cloth wipes before bed if I don’t wash my face, but I think I’m going to give one of these a try. Mainly because I think this will last longer than wipes & do the same thing. I wish some of the cheaper brands were available near me, but it looks like I’m going to have to hit up Sephora.

Definitely, its a nice alternative to wipes! I think its much more gentle because it doesn’t leave a film on your skin, which I find the wipes do

i just ordered the bioderma and finished my vichy, LOVE it! i loved the vichy had a faint wisp of wild raspberries i thought, not sure Ive seen it in usa as i got mine in uk on my hols. Shame usa doesnt have a budget one.

That sounds really cool, but I think I’m so set in my wash face, tone, moisturize ways that this would be hard for me to get used to. Old habbits die hard. lol
