Yesterday we talked about the exciting new concealers from Bare Escentuals, but those weren’t the only new release that have heads turning- the bareMinerals Stroke of Light Eye Brighteners ($20 USD / $22 CAD) have been launched as well. Four luminous tints to diffuse dark circles and discolouration for brighter eyes!
These highlighters, come in long, slim tubes with a flattened doe-foot applicator (similar to their Amazing Lip Color line). There are four shades available, Luminous 1 (fair pink), Luminous 2 (light yellow), Luminous 3 (neutral tan) and Luminous 4 (deep golden). These highlighters are very similar in concept to the ever-so-famous Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat or the MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter.
They are meant to be used around the eyes, but I would definitely use them on my cheekbones, on the bridge of my nose and cupids bow as well to highlight. The formula is a luminous, light-reflecting cream with absolutely no shimmer, and when blended out provides sheer-to-medium coverage. For those that are blessed with mild dark circles, this is probably all you would need. For those who struggle with more hyperpigmentation around the eyes might need to first apply corrector to neutralize the discoloration, then apply this highlighter to brighten afterwards.
I’m quite impressed with this formula- I obviously don’t have the same expectations for an eye-brightening product as I would a concealer, but I must say it did a pretty good job of diffusing light around my eyes (check out that before & after photo below)! I apply it to the inner corner, brow bone and create a backwards “V” at the outer corner, then use a finger to pat it out and blend it into the skin.
It claims to diffuse fine lines as well, which it does when first applied, but it’s not very crease-resistant, so you have to be careful. I do love how dewy, healthy and hydrated it makes my eye area appear though!
Summary
- Price: $20 USD / $22 CAD for 0.18oz / 5.5mL
- Availability: Sephora
- Selection: Available in four shades (all shown here)
- Overall: I’m quite impressed with these brighteners- obviously they won’t cover like a concealer, but can be used along with one. I love how luminous they are without being shimmery, but they can crease so be careful where you place it.
