Here’s a quick review of two new brushes from Bdellium Tools that are going to be available in February 2012… I’m always super excited to try out new shapes of brushes- ones I haven’t ever used before or even ones similar to, and these ones fit that category perfectly.
The Studio Line
These two new brushes are being introduced to the Bdellium Tools Studio Line, the high quality anti-bacterial line that also has my beloved 760 eyeliner brush (don’t you worry- I’ve got a whole review coming up on that one brush soon)! The brushes are a decent length- not too long so that they can still be used for travel and easy storage, but not too short that you lose flexibility of control. They have a beautiful yellow handle with the numbers marked on them- I do kind of wish the handles had their brush name as well because it’s always helpful to know what that brush is meant for instead of guessing or having to look it up.
775 Duet Fiber Shader Brush
The 775 Duet Fiber Shader brush ($9 USD) is a medium-sized, flat eye shader brush made with natural and synthetic fibers to make applying cream products super easy. I love using this one for cream eyeshadow or eye bases- it blends them softly and deposits the right amount of product. The soft synthetic tips also help to feather out the edges of cream products which is usually a little difficult, especially with fast-setting products.
731 Mascara Fan Brush
The 731 Mascara Fan brush ($8 USD) is a small, synthetic fan brush with varying lengths of bristles and it’s meant to be used to apply mascara. I was quite intrigued by this brush, because I’ve never owned a mascara fan brush before. While it may be a bit tedious for everyday, it’s certainly an awesome product for makeup artists (goodbye disposable mascara wands) or for those who long for a perfect no-makeup look. This brush leaves your lashes completely clump free, separated perfectly and beautifully defined. You’ll have perfect feather-like lashes that you can never get with a regular mascara wand!
I would think this brush is meant to be used with cake mascara, however I just scraped some mascara off of the wand itself with this brush and it applied perfectly fine. I’ve also used it to separate and define my lashes after applying mascara regularly, however it doesn’t give the exact same results. You can build the mascara to create huge, thick lashes that are completely clump free- however it can take several minutes and lots of coats to get there.

No mascara (left) compared to mascara applied with the 731 (right)- such an incredible difference, yet the mascara looks so natural still!
I think these two new brushes are a great addition to their studio line and at only $8-9 each, you can beat the quality and value! I really can’t say enough good things about these brushes, and especially because these new designs aren’t so popular- it will be nice to switch up your kit with a few new tools!
Summary
- Price: $8 USD for the 775 and $9 for the 731
- Availability: Bdellium Tools (please contact them for international shipping options)
- Overall: Two great new brushes in fairly unique shapes that are worth looking into- at less than $10 each, these brushes are fantastic additions to any collection. The 775 is amazing for cream eyeshadow and eye bases and the 731, although takes a bit more time to apply, leaves you with the soft, clump-free lashes each time (great for professional makeup artists too)!
