Benefit Longwear Powder Shadows Review, Photos & Swatches

Benefit Longwear Powder Shadows

This Spring, Benefit Cosmetics has launched a new permanent eyeshadow formula, available in 12 shades and 3 textures including matte, satin and sheen. The Benefit Longwear Powder Shadows ($20 USD / $24 CAD) were first seen a few months ago in the World Famous Neutrals kits, but now they have a home of their own in the Benefit family.

The packaging fits perfectly in with the new Creaseless Cream Shadows; each with a cream-colored compact base and clear, sculpted lid. They are cute, but the packaging is a little much- for the small amount of eyeshadow in each, there’s quite a bit of plastic which I’m not always happy to see (it does make them super cute though).

The formula is very silky, smooth and is meant to stay put all day long. The shade range is actually really beautiful, featuring soft, wearable neutrals as well as sultry smoky shades.  I have been testing out three shades from the line, including Pause for Applause (a soft lilac), It’s Complicated (a golden peach) and Kiss Me, I’m Tipsy (a spiced brown).

These eyeshadows are quite soft and subtle- you’re not going to be finding any bright, vibrant, ultra-pigmented shades here… I really feel like these are meant to be soft shades (because Benefit is all about making makeup easy and flattering). They blend well and layer easily, and while they aren’t the most pigmented eyeshadows I’ve come across, I am happy with the looks they create.

I didn’t really experience the “longwear” aspect of the eyeshadows as much as I would have liked to- especially because it’s even part of their name (so that means it’s a really important aspect of the formula). I still felt like I needed to lay down a primer or Creaseless Cream Shadow to hold these eyeshadows down from morning to night, or else I’d experience a bit of fading.

The textures are nice, and I like to apply them with a flat shader brush or a fluffy brush for blending them out. Since they are all quite soft and subtle, they make for a great wash of color all over the lid (or you can really make them pop with a bright base like Bikini-tini)!  I do find the price a bit steep for these- especially because I’d totally recommend a Creaseless Cream Shadow over these in a heartbeat- but if you’re really itching for some powdered shadows too, you might want to give them a try.
