The one and only Betsey Johnson took a little detour from fashion design to focus on another important accessory- nails! She’s teaming up with Sephora by OPI this Spring 2012 to release a gorgeous collection of nail polishes and designs, exclusive to Sephora (see the whole collection here)- honestly I was expecting something more bright and bold, but there’s a few starlets in the bunch, like this one in It’s My Pink (which is actually scented with Betsey’s signature scent, Too Too)! I also got to play around with some of her adorable nail designs too…let’s check it out!
The Nail Color
This nail polish comes in the standard Sephora by OPI bottle, but also packaged inside a gorgeous box adorned with a cute Betsey Johnson pattern. I don’t own many Sephora by OPI Nail Polishes (but I know Pascale loves them), I just find the brushes to be a little too big for my tiny nails. I much prefer the regular OPI wide brushes or the Nicole by OPI new “perfect stroke brush”- but that’s really not going to sway my decision if I love a color!
It’s My Pink! Is a gorgeous hot pink polish with even a hint of red in it. It’s definitely Betsey Johnson…and even a little BEAUTEZINE if you ask me! One coat is pretty darn pigmented on its own, so if you’re in a rush you can probably get away with it…but I’m programmed to always do at least 2 coats. I usually end up changing my mind and polish colours before they wear off, but I can usually get about 3 days without any chips at all.
This is the only polish out of the collection that is scented with Too Too, Betsey’s signature fragrance. This isn’t really a selling point for me, because within several hours the scent was pretty much gone (even though its kinda interesting and nice while it lasts), but even less time if you wear a top coat (which you always should)- so it kind of defeats the purpose. I’m kind of neutral on the scent part, I wouldn’t buy it for the fragrance if I didn’t like the color, but I wouldn’t not buy it because it has a scent. Did that make sense?
The Nail Designs
I’m not much of an nail art decal person, but I am a total sucker for anything with bows… and the Betsey Johnson Nail Designs Collection has bows, cherries and lightning bolts (oh so Betsey, isn’t it?) so I’m totally cool with this set. They stick on easily, yet are moveable for a few seconds if you didn’t place them exactly how you want them. Seal with a top coat and they’re good to go!
Love bows forever, but seriously, those cherries are absolutely adorable too. The bows are a little hard to see on the pink shade, but might look fab on one of the others in the collection! They are a bit pricey for what you get, but if you’re a nail art lover (or Betsey fanatic, of course) then you’ll love them.
Summary
- Price: $9.50 USD / $12 CDN for the Nail Color and $5 USD / $7 CDN for the Nail Designs
- Availability: Sephora (March 2012)
- Overall: A gorgeous shade of polish in the fabulous Sephora by OPI line- top quality and the hint of fragrance makes it a bit special (although I’d totally go for it even if there wasn’t any scent). The nail decals are cute, but a little pricey for the amount you get.
