Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Eye Palette Review, Photos & Swatches

Bobbi Brown has released her Desert Twilight Collection for Fall 2012 recently, and I’m excited to start reviewing some of the fantastic pieces in this beautiful collection. Inspired by sun-swept nudes, muted pinks and bright pops of turquoise, the collection evokes a late summer glow as we head into the autumn months. Along with this comes some great news too- Sephora now ships Bobbi Brown products to Canada!

The first piece I’m going to be showing you is one that stood out to me most out of the whole collection; it’s the Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Eye Palette ($60 USD / $70 CAD), a slim palette in a brushed-metal compact containing eight eyeshadows and a double-ended brush.

The gorgeous, brushed metal compact

Slim and sleek!

The inside of the compact lid encases a large mirror that is perfect for on-the-go! The included brush is incredible (you don’t throw away the brushes in Bobbi’s palettes- they are always great quality)! While does have an eyeshadow brush on one side and an eyeliner brush on the other, I do wish the eyeliner brush was angled instead of rounded (but it does make it a little more versatile).

The eight tawny eyeshadows vary in tone and texture; including a single light base shade, six mid tone lid shades and one eyeliner shade, meant to be mixed and matched for a variety of looks.  The eyeshadows also vary in quality and pigmentation, but overall they are quite good. Only the sparkle formulas lack in pigment significantly (but that isn’t new, I find that with all Bobbi’s sparkle shades).  I find the shades look much more pink/mauve in person than they do in the promo photos- so make sure to check out the swatches to see the true hues.

The palette includes:

  • Navajo: This creamy pinkish white eyeshadow is a great brow bone highlighter or base shade for all looks in this palette
  • Twilight: A bronzy pink metallic eyeshadow; great pigmentation and probably one of my favorite shades in the palette!
  • Pink Dusk: A metallic mauve; I love the brightening look that this one gives to the eyes while still giving color.
  • Water Color Pink: A silvery baby pink sparkle eyeshadow; the better out of the two sparkle shades in terms of quality and pigmentation.
  • Twilight Pink: A pale nude pink metallic shadow; looks beautiful all over the lid paired with the eyeliner!
  • Cement: A matte grey beige shade; a fantastic crease shade for all combinations with this palette
  • Dusk: The second pink sparkle shade, a little more mauve in tone, and a lot less impressive; this one barely has any pigmentation.
  • Chocolate Mauve: A blackened, matte plum shade that works great as an eyeliner, or to create a smokey eye out of any combination of shades! This one really pulls everything together.

For any rose and mauve eyeshadow lovers, this one is for you! I’m always a huge fan of Bobbi’s palettes, and this one is really gorgeous. I do wish there would be one more matte eyeshadow to replace the Dusk sparkle shade (it really just doesn’t do anything), but overall the palette works well together. I love how many possibilities there are, and it’s such a beautiful sleek case too!

I know that a lot of people are scared of pink and mauve eyeshadows, fearing you’ll look like you have a black eye or even pink eye; but the solution to that is all in the eyeliner! I got this tip from Bobbi herself, and I’ve never had a problem since- whenever you wear pink or purple eyeshadows, always use an eyeliner (and make it fairly thick and noticeable) to ensure separation of the pink tones from the whites of your eye.

I’ll definitely be putting together a look with this palette soon, so stay tuned for that! The value is pretty standard for a limited edition Bobbi Brown palette; eight eyeshadows for around $60 is usually the going rate; so if you’re loving the shades, pick it up before its gone!

Summary

  • Price: $60 USD / $70 CAD for 0.32oz / 9.2g
  • Availability: Sephora (Limited Edition)
  • Selection: See the entire collection here
  • Overall: For any rose & mauve eyeshadow lovers, this palette is for you! I love the various nude pink and dusty rose shades, and it’s nice to see a variety of texture too. One sparkle eyeshadow would have been enough, because I’m not a fan of the formula, but the rest of the palette makes up for it! The included double-ended brush is superb, and the compact itself is beautiful and sleek.
