We all know that Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner ($21 USD) is my weapon of choice for super and dramatic eyeliner… but sometimes “black” is just too harsh for some people. Both my mother and Pascale steer clear of super black eyeliner shades, so if you’re the same you may take a liking to this shade in Granite Ink!
The Packaging
Bobbi Brown’s gel eyeliners come in small glass pots, similar to their cream eyeshadows. What I love about the packaging is that the opening of the jar is large enough to really get your brush in there… unlike some gel eyeliners (like the new Revlon ColorStay Gel Eyeliner) where the opening is so small you can hardly see what you’re doing, let alone get the product from the sides of the jar.
The Product
Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Gel Eyeliner has been my favorite formulation of eyeliner for a long time now- its smooth and creamy, easy to apply and doesn’t set too fast so you can smudge it and soften it if you like (I dislike gel eyeliners that only give you seconds to work with), yet once it’s set it won’t budge all day. It also comes off nicely, without flaking or peeling (I would definitely suggest using a waterproof eye makeup remover or cleansing water for easy removal). Overall, the formula is just fantastic and super pigmented.
This shade, Granite Ink, is a bit of a softer black. It’s a deep grey that almost looks black in the pot and when on the eyes, but when you compare it to my personal favorite Black Ink, you can really see it is much softer- perfect for those who want dramatic definition, but aren’t comfortable with pure black hues. It leaves a smoky charcoal look when smudged, which I absolutely love…or you can just use it with a thin brush for an ultra-precise line.
Summary
- Price: $21 USD
- Availability: Sephora and other Bobbi Brown retailers
- Overall: A gorgeous soft grey-black eyeliner in my favorite Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner formulation- goes on smooth, lasts all day and comes off with ease (when you want it to). A great alternative for those who’s steer clear of harsh black hues!
