Whether its luxe tweed or those interlocking C’s, Chanel’s iconic elements are easy to identify. Similarly, when it comes to colour, the French house has its signatures: red, black, gold, white and beige. For Spring/Summer 2017, the brand is giving those colours full focus, with the Chanel Coco Codes Collection.
For a lineup all about classics, Chanel’s found a few ways to add its playful twist. Alongside the traditional lip, eye, nail and cheek offerings, there’s a stunning collectible blush palette that has us swooning. We have most of the collection to share with you below—let us know what catches your eye!
The collection’s eye products are all quite wearable. The standouts are the two Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow palettes.
Codes Élégants is the glam version, with four shades ranging from pale gold to chocolate. Meanwhile, Codes Subtils is meant to be a more low-key mix of pink and brown hues (unfortunately, it’s the only item of the collection we don’t have).
All of the formulas have a fair bit of shimmer, so though there aren’t any loud colours, they still make a bit of a statement.
The collection also features two Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliners in neutral brown and taupe shades, perfect for finishing off either eye palette look.
Noir Pétrole is a brownish-black shade while Mat Taupe is a lighter, warmer shade of brown.
Whether you prefer your lip colour to be satin, sheer or matte, there’s an option for you in this collection.
There are two stunning red shades of Rouge Allure Lipstick: the bright Ardente and the somewhat deeper Indépendante.
On the softer side are the two pinky-nude mattes: Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick in La Secrète (light pink) and Libre (rosy beige).
There are also two Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick colours that nod to the black and gold aspect of the collection.
Noir Moderne lends a translucent dark berry tone to lips, while Beige Doré adds shine with a hint of gold shimmer. Both shades are quite sheer and act more as a glaze-like top coat to transform your favourite lipstick or on bare lips for a hint of color.
The star of the show is definitely the Coco Code Blush Harmony compact. Often, Chanel’s limited-edition powders feature delicate, ornate embossing. This one’s graphic squares and bold lettering feel fresh and modern.
Each quadrant has a different colour that you could wear on its own (with a very precise brush if you wanted), but the pink hue is so bold, the group blends together to create a flattering peachy pink hue with soft hints of gold shimmer.
It’s almost a mystery as to what the white, beige, red and gold portions will look like when combined, but take a look at the swatch below and see how gorgeous it is!
If you want to go for a more neutral, subtle blush, then you’ll like the Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Élégance. It has a bronzy-peach hue with a radiant finish for a warm, sunkissed flush that will be perfect for summer!
With every seasonal collection, Chanel does a great job of introducing delightful new Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour shades.
This time around, the beiges (the lighter Blanc White and slightly darker Beige Beige) and red (Rouge Red) are definitely more on the classic side (nothing wrong with that, but I always love the more unique creations Chanel is known for). Chanel also included a little something to spice up the traditional shades: a sheer black Le Top Coat. When layered over another polish, it darkens the hue ever so slightly. It’s fun to play around with but we found it looks best to deepen rich colors (like red, purple or blue) because it can look a tad streaky over lighter shades.
