We’ve got to admit that the first time we ever heard of a “dry mask,” we were left scratching our heads. Considering that we’re so used to juicy-wet sheet masks sticking to our skin and delivering instant hydration, it’s hard to imagine a dry version.
But then we learned how they work (more on that in a bit) and, more importantly, tried one from luxe Montreal-based brand Nannette de Gaspé, and suddenly became believers. Now, Charlotte Tilbury has launched her Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask, and we’re singing dry masks’ praises all over again.
Though Tilbury is a mega-famous makeup artist (she’s besties with Kate Moss and did her makeup for her wedding), she’s also made a name for herself in skincare thanks to her widely loved Magic Cream. It has won awards for its abracadabra-like skin-plumping effect, but it’s the new dry mask that has us under a spell right now.
After 15 minutes of wear, the mask left our skin feeling smooth and looking glowy. The result is a bit surprising at first, because it’s hard to imagine how a dry sheet could really make a difference, especially when we’re so used to slathering ourselves in oils and rich creams. But because a dry mask skips out on water and glycerin (major ingredients in most sheet masks), there’s more room for active ingredients.
The Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask packs vitamin B3 for brightening, a plant stem cells for lifting, extract from crocus bulbs to boost collagen and elastin production, peptides for tackling wrinkles, and a blend of oils and butters to strengthen your skin’s barrier. These ingredients are imprinted onto the fabric, and, through a unique delivery system—which was actually developed in Quebec—they are released slowly, and even create a reservoir in your epidermis to be absorbed later based on your skin’s individual needs. It’s a seriously impressive level of customization for something that looks so plain.
So how does a dry mask stick to your face? It has clever/funny ear loops to hold it in place. It feels super soft, like wrapping your face in a cozy blanket. Once you’re done with it, you can store it away in the re-sealable packet to re-use it twice more. It can even be used on top of makeup to plump up and hydrate skin before a night out when a full-face redo is out of the question.
Okay sure, it might look a little creepy when its on, but the skin-loving benefits are totally worth it.
Charlotte Tilbury Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask retails for $27 (or $98 for a pack of four) and is now available in stores and online at holtrenfrew.com.shop this Story
