China Glaze Electropop Collection for Spring 2012

I seriously cannot remember the last time I was this excited for a nail polish collection, let alone wanting every single color in a collection. It’s the China Glaze Electropop Collection for Spring 2012, and boy is it full of all the season’s essentials!  The collection can be divided into two categories: the lights (soft, greyish pastels) and the brights (bold and vibrant colors).   Both are super hot and trendy for the season, so you’re bound to fall in love with at least a few shades from this collection! Word of warning: the collection has been out for a little while, so some shades may be sold out or harder to find than others, but the internet is your best friend and there are lots of great online retailers too.

The Collection

I’ve always been a huge fan of China Glaze nail lacquers. The bottle is cute, the brush is fairly decent (I definitely prefer the Nicole by OPI Perfect Stroke brush or the YSL La Laque Couture brush), but this one works okay (not too big for long for my nails). The nail lacquers comes are mostly the same texture, with a high-shine creme finish (only a couple have a bit of a shimmer or pearl finish). I can usually get about 4-5 days of wear with these nail lacquers without chipping (and even more if they are on top of a clear gel mani).  The price, selection and quality makes China Glaze one of my favorite nail polish brands!

For the most part, the shades are quite varied- making it easy to want the entire collection (only a few of the pinks are quite similar, so you probably don’t need them all). The only super hot shade the collection is missing? Mint green.  While the pale blue is gorgeous- I think it would have taken this collection from awesome to perfect to be a little more on the mint-green side instead of grey side.

The Polishes

Because there are 12 polishes in this collection, I’ll review each shade individually and my experience with them!

Techno

This polish stands out quickly as it is a very different texture from all the other shades.  It is a glitter top coat with various sizes of glitter and flecks.  The mother-of-pearl reflects make it completely universal and looks good on top of any polish in the entire collection! I like it best on top of Aquadelic, but really it adds gorgeous shine and sparkle to any color.  It isn’t the easiest to get a good amount of glitter, because its suspended in a clear base it applies quite thick.

Aquadelic

This shade was one of the colors I was most excited for, because it just screams summer.  It’s a gorgeous light aqua blue, and the pigmentation doesn’t disappoint.  Two coats for perfect coverage, this shade is the perfect poolside blue. One of my favourites of the collection!

Sunshine Pop

This bright and bold yellow is a little bit different in texture from the majority of the polishes- it has a slight pearl/shimmer finish and I found it to be a lot more sheer than the other shades.  It took 3 coats to achieve a reasonable finish, and even then it was still slightly transparent.  I wouldn’t say it’s a dud of the collection, but many of the other shades surpass this one.

Gaga for Green

This light, grassy green was also a little bit more sheer than the majority of the shades, however I was still satisfied with two coats.  personally, I’m not a huge fan of the color itself…but in terms of quality and finish it’s quite nice!  I would probably only wear this type of green if it were St. Patrick’s Day or if it really complemented my outfit.

Make Some Noise

Another favorite of mine from the collection, this spicy coral shade looks a lot like my new love, the YSL La Laque Couture in Coral Colisee!   It’s much more on the reddish side of coral, but gorgeous none-the-less. Fabulous pigmentation in this creme finish shade too.

Wicked Style

Hands down, my favorite shade in the entire collection. Why? Because for a while now… I’ve been on the search for a nail polish that is the color of the “Beautezine pink” (basically the shade of pink I use on my website). This shade looks more pink in the bottle, but it has a more reddish tone to it once its on the nails and it’s definitely the closest shade I’ve found so far! Super excited… and the fact the pigmentation and high gloss finish are amazing as well is just icing on the cake!

Fuchsia Fanatic

Fuchsia lovers rejoice! This purple-pink shade is absolutely stunning. I know all the pinks are quite similar, but I love them all (in general, I just love pink).  This shade maintains the same high-shine finish and two-coats-to-perfection coverage that most of the polishes in this collection have. Super gorgeous, reminds me of spring flowers!

Dance Baby

A sweet, pepto-pink shade that reminds me of OPI’s super popular shade from the Nicki Minaj collection (I didn’t get it so unfortunately I can’t compare, but I think they look quite similar)…so if you missed out on that one, then this one might be a great dupe!  I love the cotton candy shade- it goes on more pink then I thought (it has a slight lavender tint in the bottle).

Electric Beat

This sky blue periwinkle shade is really gorgeous- with a slight undertone of lilac, I think it’s a gorgeous one for spring.  Probably not one that I would reach for often, but I think paired with a white summer dress it would be fantastic!

Kinetic Candy

This pale greyish blue left me a little disappointed… I really wish that they would have gone for a more pastel mint shade then this one.  I’m not a fan of greyish tones anyways, I find them to be a bit depressing (I prefer clean hues then softened with grey), so it’s not one I would reach for often.

Sweet Hook

Totally in love with this gorgeous lilac shade! Pastel purple has been a huge hit this spring season, and this color is perfect! I wish I would have had this polish for Easter, because I think it would have been the perfect choice. Lovely pigmentation for such a light shade. One of my favourites!

Gothic Lolita

The only other shade that has a bit of a pearl texture to it- this deep grape purple is stunning and much more pigmented than the yellow.  I’m much more happy with this one, and even though I’m not usually a purple polish person, I might have to switch it up with this shade for a bit because it’s just so gorgeous. I’m also thinking it would make a great base for some gold nail art!
