Attempting Self Portraits…

Published On January 7, 2012 | Chit Chat

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you’ve all had a great start to the weekend… I slept in today and just had a lovely lazy day blogging away (totally needed).  I’m getting together with Pascale tonight, which is fun because I haven’t seen her since before the holidays!  We’re organizing our next photoshoot for Spring 2012, but it’s not happening until next month. I didn’t want to leave you guys without some looks for our Look Book, so this week I was playing around with my studio lighting to try to figure out how to do self portraits (silly I know, but hand-holding with my Nikon D7000 just isn’t possible).

I spent a lot of money on my lighting, so I want to try to get as much use out of it as I can…and the photo above is one that I ended up with after tweaking settings. I quite like it!  So let’s see if I can do some looks & how-to posts on my own…can’t wait to see what you guys think.

What is the first look/trend you want to see me do?

I’d love to hear some pointers on how to do self-portraits! I just got out of the hospital earlier today, it was just a small gallbladder removal, but it’s still very sore! Good excuse to just sit still and read blogs :)

I’m loving it! But I’m confused, did you or did you not attempt to hand hold your Nikon DSLR? LOL

Either way, this is looking great! I’m still looking forward to see the bdellium tools eyeliner brush in action. Hope that’s on your list =)

I’ve tried, by I use an 18-105 lens and my arms are too short to hold it at a far enough focusing distance lol….its on a tripod :)

I just wanted to say, I LOVE your lighting! When I’m watching your youtube videos, I’m always so impressed with the lighting and the bright bg! I’m like.. ‘how does she do that?’ lol

I’d loke to see a look with coloured eyeliner.

Tripod is the way to go. Hand holding the camera, especially a dslr will just distort everything, because of the arm holding it up and trying to balance. A little wireless remote control works wonders, as well!
