Clinique first stole our hearts with their Chubby Stick lip balms a little while ago, and now they are back with a brand new formula! The Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tints for Eyes ($16 USD / $19 CAD) come in twelve different shades, and boast a long-wearing, crease-free formula with rich pigmentation and a creamy texture.
They really look very similar to the Chubby Stick lip balms; much more chubby than other jumbo cream eyeshadow pencils we’ve seen in the past (namely Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadows and NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils). They are about 1/2″ in diameter and the caps have a ‘snap’ shut (which keeps them from accidentally falling off)- it’s really nice and secure.
The shades I have are…
- Ample Amber: Bronzy pink
- Whopping Willow: Golden sage green
- Fuller Fudge: Bronze
- Lavish Lilac: Mid-tone lavender
The quality of these eyeshadow pencils are incredible; they were all very consistent with a creamy, buttery application that was easy to smooth out and blend, but sets for a crease-free, long-wearing finish. I love the fact these pencils have a twist-up mechanism, so you don’t waste any product sharpening them (one of my biggest pet-peeves of jumbo eye pencils).
I really love Ample Amber the most, because it makes such a beautiful wash of color all over the lid for everyday. They also layer easily, and if I want a little more definition, I’ll a bit of Fuller Fudge on top in the outer 1/3 of my eye and blend gently. They look really striking on the eye, and make for a great eyeshadow base or are great all on their own.
They lack a little in the precision department… because their ultra jumbo size, it’s a little hard to apply precisely to areas like the inner corner or inner eyelid. They did fade a bit after a full day of wear, but I experienced no creasing which was fantastic. I do however, have dry eyelids… so I would love to know what your experience with these shadow pencils are like if you have oily eyelids!
