I’ve loved the original Clinique Moisture Surge moisturizer for years, but I never used it alone- it was always a pat-on-when-skin-feels-dry-throughout-the-day type thing, because when used alone I just didn’t find it would make the cut. Fast forward, and Clinique has released a new sister to the line- it’s the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense ($36 USD / $43 CDN), a more rich version for those with extra dry skin.
The container looks almost identical to the original formula, only the jar looks frosted instead of clear. Everything else is pretty much identical- the reflective cap, the green box, the simplistic appearance (all of which I love). The box does state that this products is for skin types 1 & 2 only (the original formula is good for 1, 2, 3 and 4- all four skin types defined by Clinique), which means its meant for extra dry to normal-to-dry skin types.
While the moisturizer looks like it’s going to be a thick, dense cream, it actually feels a lot like the original. It is still a gel base, it’s just a little more opaque then the clear fluff before it. It feels so refreshing on my skin, literally like that feeling you get when chugging down a huge glass of water when you’re super thirsty- that’s what this feels like for my skin. Instant hydration and happiness. My skin gets super tight after washing it and this is just the most relieving product ever!
Pascale tried this one out first, and her normal skin loves the original formula- yet she found that this one would just ‘sit’ on her skin and not sink deep down. For me, it was pure heaven. My skin not only felt comfortable and plumped, but it stayed that way all day! For someone like me that could never be fully satisfied with the original- you’ll love this one. If you’re already a huge fan of the original and don’t think you really need anymore hydration then what it offers…well, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.
- Price: $36 USD / $43 for 1.7oz
- Availability: Sephora
- Overall: A much better fit for my super dry skin- it plumps, hydrates and soothes my skin all at once. For someone who already loves the original, this might be a little to heavy for you.
