This Cover FX Powder FX Mineral Powder Foundation ($35 USD / $35 CDN) and I go wayyyy back. Way back to my teen years when I was battling acne, scars, oiliness and all that wonderful fun stuff. And I still use it today! Read on why…
This Cover FX powder foundation comes in a nice sleek silver compact that’s great to go from makeup bag to purse for daily touch-ups. It also includes a high quality sponge which I actually REALLY love for applying it for a full coverage finish. It looks a lot like their other Matte FX (which doesn’t have a lot of pigment, so don’t get them mixed up if you’re looking for a foundation). It has a nice mirror on the inside as well which is great for on-the-go.
This powder is a medium coverage powder foundation that can be layered to a achieve higher coverage. When I was younger, battling acne, oily skin and acne scars- this was seriously my life saver. In just a few seconds I was able to cover the scars, banish the oil slicks and it would stay that way throughout the day without looking too heavy. It let my skin breathe and look smooth and flawless. I hardly even needed concealer for scars, if ever.
To this day, I still use it when I want a flawless, matte-finish. It’s a little heavy to set liquid foundation with, but its lovely for those quick makeup days on the weekends when little effort is ideal. It worked back when I had super oily skin, and it works now with my dry-combination skin. I do sometimes spritz it with a bit of hydrating spray after to get rid of any dry look (you know, how it grabs onto the baby hairs?) or I just apply a bit of moisturizer to my hands, work it in, then just gently tap my hands over my face and it makes it look totally natural and not dry at all.
This shade is in M30, and for reference I am an NC20 in MAC. CoverFX has an incredible shade range for all their foundation products, so you’ll never have to worry about a mismatch. $35 is a lot to pay for a foundation in my opinion, but I splurged on it when I hardly had that kind of money to spend when I was 16 because it was simply the best thing I could find for my skin and I loved it THAT much. The one good thing about the price? It’s the same in Canada (woot for Canadian brands)!
- Price: $35 USD / $35 CDN
- Availability: Sephora and other Cover FX retailers
- Overall: Oil controlling yet not over-drying, natural-matte finish, medium coverage that covers scars beautifully, light and breathable. High price tag, but even when I was 16 and $10 was too much for a lipgloss, I still bought this powder because it was the best I could find.
