Katy Perry has been the face of many CoverGirl launches to date but her new lipstick collection is a super special one. Katy worked closely with CoverGirl on the Katy Kat Collection, from choosing the trendy shades, names and packaging. It truly reflects Katy Perry’s personal style yet still has that CoverGirl flair.
The collection includes 11 creamy-matte lipsticks in sleek, matte black and white tubes. The shades include Sphynx (nude pink), Pink Paws (soft pink), Magenta Minx (bright pink), Cat Call (vivid pink), Catoure (rosewood pink), Kitty Purry (soft mauve), Cosmo Kitty (bright lavender), Coral Cat (soft coral), Crimson Cat (classic red), Maroon Meow (deep red wine) & Perry Panther (black).
I love the range of shades in the collection—from soft nude to pops of color to edgy hues like lavender and black, there’s something for everyone. In particular, my favorites are Kitty Purry, Cosmo Kitty and Maroon Meow. The pigmentation is impressive and they feel quite comfortable on the lips.
With the word “Matte” right in the name of the lipsticks, you would assume they’d be…well, matte. They are actually considered to be “demi-matte” because of their creamy texture, but with the amount of sheen these lipsticks leave on the lips I’d be more inclined to call them a satin or cream texture, not matte. I’m not mad about it—I prefer lipsticks with some sheen, but if you’re looking for an ultra-flat matte lipstick, you won’t find it here.
In terms of wear time, they do stay on the lips quite a long time for being such a creamy formula. The deeper shades apply a bit patchy at first, so they definitely need to be layered a few times for an opaque, even coverage. They have a bit of a scent to them, as most CoverGirl lipsticks do, but I find it fades quickly once applied.
For the price tag and mass availability, these lipsticks are definitely living up to the hype. Bravo, Katy Perry!
Katy Perry Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks retail for $9 each and are available at drugstores and online at ULTA.
