Airbrushing seems to be one makeup technique that many stray far away from, because it’s either too difficult or too expensive. Fortunately, both of those misconceptions aren’t true! Whether you are a professional makeup artist wanting to take your services to the next level, or just an avid makeup lover longing for that perfect makeup look, Dinair makes it easy and relatively affordable to do so. The Dinair Personal/Pro Edition Airbrush Kit (Staring at $199 USD) comes with absolutely everything you need to get started. I have been airbrushing with TEMPTU Pro for almost 2 years now, so I do have quite a bit of experience in the field, so I’m definitely able to compare this kit to one of the top systems in the industry.
The Kit
When I opened the box of my Dinair Personal/Pro Edition Airbrush Kit, I couldn’t believe how much came inside. Literally, everything you need to get started. Not only is everything portable and easy to pack, but everything is super cute too. The first thing you’ll notice is lots of papers and documents- like how-to cartoons, Warranty registration, even gift card! It also comes with a super helpful DVD that I watched entirely… seriously, watch the DVD first and you’ll already know how to airbrush. There are also practice sheets for developing your technique and all the little accessories and gadgets needed for training and proper cleaning.
The Compressor
The compressors come in a wide variety of shades- some of them cost an additional premium, but the selection is gorgeous so it’s nice to know you can customize your system to fit your personality and desires. i got the Fuchsia color, and I’m so in love with it! The multi-pressure system allows you to turn the dial to get the exact pressure you want (this is key for changing from foundation to blush to eye makeup and also for cleaning).
The Airbrush Gun
The airbrush gun feels really comfortable in my hand. Sturdy and high quality, this continuous airflow airbrush always has air running through the gun when the system is on, all you have to do is pull back to release the color. I’m also a fan of the “training bands” that come with it- two little black bands that you can put near the trigger, that stop you from pulling back too far. This trains you to know how far you should be pulling back for foundation application. The protective sleeve is nice for travel but I much prefer the solid plastic case with foam padding that my TEMPTU gun comes with. Also, one of the biggest downsides for me is the hose…. it’s really just rubber tubing that slips onto each end. It gets the job done, but my TEMPTU hose hooks on securely and feels much more high quality and professional.
The Makeup
When customizing your airbrush kit, you get the choice of four ranges of shades. Mine is the Fair range (there is also Medium, Tan and Dark ranges) and each come with four different 1/4oz foundation shades. They vary in color and undertone, which makes it possible to match nearly any skin tone. One of the best advantages to airbrush makeup is the ability to combine and mix shades to get the perfect one. Once you find your “recipe” (ie. I am 4 drops of Olive Biege and 2 drops of Vanilla), you’ll get your perfect shade each time!
In the kit, you also get to choose “colors”- basically blushes, bronzers and highlighters. I got one blush in Peach Pink, one bronzer in Light Bronze and two shimmers in Gold and Barely Pink. I’m not the hugest fan of airbrushing blush/bronzer/highlighter, I much prefer to do it myself with brushes (I just find I’m better at it that way), but these shades and formulas are so great, you have the option if you want it. Another advantage of airbrushing is that you don’t have to clean in-between shades. After you’re done with foundation, just go ahead and put a few drops of blush or bronzer in the cup, spray on a tissue until you see the color you want coming through, then go ahead and apply to the face. You only have clean the system once you are finished.
The formula itself is incredible- I’m so amazed how I can go from morning until night with perfect-looking skin and no touch-ups needed. It looks incredibly natural and light, my skin really feels like it can breathe. The makeup is water-based, so its much better for your skin for daily use and although it isn’t as resilient as my TEMPTU S/B makeup, it sure does a good enough job for me! The application does take a little longer than regular makeup, but the extra 5-10 minutes you put in certainly make it worth it for long days or special events.
The Extras
You also receive a bottle of Moist & Dewy, their hydrating and illuminating spray to give a ‘glow’ to the skin. I find the makeup “glowy” enough as it is… but if you have very dry skin you could add a bit more of this if you feel too dry. One of the best things about the Dinair kit is that it also comes with a bottle of Practice Color, for practicing on the paper to develop your technique instead of wasting your precious makeup! Lastly, a small bottle of AirTan is included (mine is in shade Light), their airbrush self-tanner so you can sample what their self-tanning line is like! The Brush Cleanser included is a pretty good size, and works very well- it smells fresh and citrusy and makes cleaning your airbrush a snap after use.
Comparison to TEMPTU
Since I’ve been using TEMPTU Pro for nearly two years, it’s really the only other system I can compare the Dinair one to, however it’s a good comparison, because TEMPTU Pro is one of the top industry systems. I think that TEMPTU Pro is superior in terms of hardware- the airbrush gun, the case, the sturdiness and power of the compressor (you won’t be doing much pro body art with the Dinair one)- all things that are great for top professional use. The Dinair airbrush system is a really amazing personal airbrush system in my opinion, that can be used for freelancing beauty makeup, but if you really want to get into the professional industry then you might be better off investing in one really made for that area. I think the Dinair is an excellent kit for personal use, and I’m definitely going to continue to use it on myself and for small photoshoots. It’s hard to make a recommendation, because each systems have their pro’s and con’s (mainly price for TEMPTU)- it really depends mostly on how often you’ll be using it and to what extent.

Summary
- Price: Starting at $199 USD
- Availability: Dinair
- Selection: Kits are totally customizable, from the color of the compressor to the shades you receive in the kit.
- Overall: An incredible airbrush system for personal use and/or beginning freelancing makeup artists wanting to branch out their technique. I love the formula and wear of the makeup, and all the tools and included extras make sure you’re ready to go right out of the box. I think the hardware could use an update (the hose mainly… it seemed quite cheap looking and feeling), but overall the system works well. For the price, it’s an amazing personal system that can be used (to and extent) for professional use as well.
