The Dior Birds of Paradise Collection for Summer 2013 features two Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palettes ($60 USD / $60 CAD), including this blue & teal toned palette in Blue Lagoon. This limited-edition tropical couture collection features exotic colors inspired by the legendary bird of paradise. The collection is available now; follow along with my coverage of the collection here!
This eyeshadow palette comes in the traditional navy Dior case with velvet pouch and “stitch” embossed eyeshadows. There is a large interior mirror and two double-ended sponge-tip applicators.
The shades include a matte baby blue (top left), a satin mint green (top right), a shimmery navy blue (center), a frosted teal (bottom left) and a pale lime green (bottom right). I’m happy to see a fairly good variety of tones and textures in the palette and the actual color choices are all modern, chic interpretations of blue and green which are typically quite hard to pull off.
The pigmentation of this palette is a little disappointing though- the shades are fairly buildable, but for the most part the colors come off quite sheer and slightly dry (so they don’t last too long either). The center shade had the most pigmentation, followed by the top left and bottom left shades which were decent, but the top right and bottom right shades were very lacking in pigmentation.
This isn’t a complete failure though, because shades like these blues I find are much easier and more wearable when they are on the sheer side- so if you’re looking to dive into the world of blue and teal eyeshadows, this palette might actually be a pretty good, fool-proof start. They do blend fairly nicely and produce a nice, soft look. For those that want bold, pigmented looks… you’ll want to pass on this one.
