The Dior Birds of Paradise Collection for Summer 2013 features two Dior Addict Lipsticks ($31 USD / $31 CAD), in luscious, pink hues. This limited-edition tropical couture collection features exotic colors inspired by the legendary bird of paradise. The collection is available now; follow along with my coverage of the collection here!
Both of these shades are joining the permanent Dior Addict Lipstick line-up. They feature the same packaging as the regular Dior Addict lipsticks; a clear cap and “CD” inscribed knob. This lipstick doesn’t have any noticeable scent (which is a bit unfortunate), but it glides on like butter- actually, it almost feels more like a lip butter than a lipstick!
The two shades in the collection include 751 Exotique and 771 Passionée, both of which are very similar (and look almost identical on the lips). Exotique is slightly more warm, with almost a coral hint to it, while Passionée is more cool-toned with a hint of fuchsia to it. They each have a juicy, glossy sheen which tops off the sheer-to-medium buildable color perfectly. This lipstick formula is incredibly hydrating and plumping… it feels almost more like a lip balm, however it really does offer great coverage if you build it. I love the versatility of a buildable lip color like this one… one layer leaves you with a hint of a glossy tint, while several layers build the color up to an opaque finish.
Unfortunately, these lip colors only last about 2-3 hours on me. They aren’t really a pain to re-apply, though, so it doesn’t bother me too much. The texture is just so lovely, and the application is quite fool proof because of it’s buildable pigmentation. It doesn’t bleed, even with the glossy finish it has- which I love.
One thing that I really don’t like about these lip colors are the fact that the color label is on the cap, not the tube with the actual bullet. Even though this isn’t a problem in 99% of everyday use, it’s frustrating that 1% of the time where you accidentally open two lipsticks at once… and can’t tell which one is which (yes, that happened to me with these). Not a huge problem, but I just don’t like seeing labels on parts of a product that are removable.
Both of these shades are excellent choices for summer- they are so flattering and wearable and I think almost every skintone could pull them off! I love them both, but I’m slightly more drawn to Passionée, as I prefer cooler-toned pinks (I find they make my teeth look whiter)!
