Those that love Drybar’s iconic Detox Dry Shampoo are in for a treat—the brand just launched a whipped foam version that promises to refresh your ‘do with a softer, less mattifying finish.
Wait a minute—a foam? Yes, you read that correctly. Stay with me for a moment.
Dry shampoo foam isn’t exactly a new concept. Years ago, TRESémme launched a foam formula alongside their standard powder version, but I don’t think the market was quite ready for it just yet (the product didn’t get much love back then and it appears to have disappeared since). More recently, celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin introduced Dry Shampoo Foam to her buzzworthy OUAI haircare line and everyone around the web has been raving about it since it launched earlier this year.
Now, Drybar’s Detox Whipped Dry Shampoo Foam ($30) is hitting the market and I think it’s going to be a new must-have for many dry shampoo addicts out there.
It might sound like a strange concept—refreshing your blow-out with a wet foam—but the results are quite amazing. The foam is super lightweight and can be applied exactly where you want it. As you massage it in (like you would shampoo in the shower), the product dries down while absorbing oils, adding volume and softening the hair. It’s the closest thing you can get to a deep cleanse without the water.
Since the product is powderless, it doesn’t leave residue behind nor does it dull or mattify the hair (a problem many find frustrating with typical dry shampoo formulas). It works on all hair types, but it’s particularly great for those with thick, curly hair or anyone with drier scalps.
It feels a bit odd at first—like you’re destroying your hairstyle more than reviving it—but as the product dries, it leaves behind soft, bouncy locks ready to take on an exra day.
