I think that every blogger who has written about October being Breast Cancer Awareness month probably did the exact same thing I did…stared at my computer screen for half an hour trying to figure out how to even start a sentence. Behind all the pink ribbons and lipgloss, there’s a huge other world that way too many of us have been affected by. Breast Cancer is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly, and instead of “celebrating” this awareness month (which I almost feel there is that connotation to), take a moment to think how you can bring awareness to the topic. Whether you donate your money directly, buy one of these lovely products that benefit breast cancer research, attend a fundraiser or simply just help spread the word- there’s something that everyone can do.
I chose the picture of myself above because I think it tells a huge story. I was 19 and I cut off all my hair to donate it, so that someone who couldn’t grow hair could have what we all take advantage of daily. It took me 4 years to grow my hair back, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. These material things we have, all this makeup we adore, all these skincare products we slap on at night…they all are so insignificant in the light of something like this disease. So please, do whatever it is that you can do, and I promise you that you’ll feel more beautiful than ever.
