For all mani-pedi addicts, gel nail polish is a major savior– it doesn’t chip, dries instantly and lasts for weeks. But as much as we love the look, it’s hard to overlook the damage being done to hands and nails. A few months ago, Essie (a brand known for nail care first and foremost) launched a 2-in-1 Professional LED Gel System. Although a bit late to the gel nail party, this is the first system where the focus is on both colour and care (even after removal)! I got to test-drive the new system before the Holidays, and it definitely proved itself with quality and durability on par with leading gel polish brands like Gelish and Shellac. The experience was quick and pleasant…but come on, how could it not be when Essie Canada’s Lead Nail Artist Rita Remark is giving you a manicure.
Available now in salons across US and Canada (and coming April 2014 to salons worldwide), this innovative system gives us all the things we love about gel nails, minus the things we don’t. With strengthening nail care ingredients in every step of the system, nails actually get healthier with regular manicures.
As every gel polish junkie knows, you have to clean the nail really well before applying any colour (seriously, this is one step you just cannot skip). If you don’t, the gel polish won’t last as long and may chip easier. The Prep+Finish Cleanser works to create a smooth, clean base that maximizes gel bonding while the keratin-infused Base Coat formula nourishes nails with essential nutrients for maximum protection.
If you’re already an Essie girl, you can find all your favourite shades in 36 corresponding gel formula shades. So don’t fret if you’re forever a Mint Candy Apple or Ballet Slippers fan, Fashion Crowd and Dance Class (respectively) will give you the same great look but in a gel formula. Finishing it all off with a super-glossy Top Coat, nails look fabulous for two weeks (no chipping, denting or peeling).
The Gel Remover is really what differentiates this system from others. We all know how troublesome removing gel manicures can be (whatever you do- DO NOT PICK IT OFF!). In just 15 minutes, this formula removes gel polish quickly and safely without drying out the nail or surrounding skin. It also contains rich oils that help condition so it doesn’t strip the nail. Once again, packed with nourishing ingredients to strengthen nails, your manicure is removed easily and ready for a new one.
Essie gel manicures are only available at select salons (right now, the Gliss Salon and The Beauty Lounge Salon and Spa in Toronto offer the service) for around $30-35 and $40-45 for a pedicure (price will vary by salon). I’ve been told that Essie will soon have an online salon locator to help find a salon near you.
