Each year, I look forward to seeing which final six shades end up in Essie’s winter collections (perhaps because I tend to wear bold shades a bit more often). Usually combining a few classic shades of the season along with a few trendy, unexpected twists, essie’s lineup for the Winter 2017 Collection is no different. The collection includes six shades, each with a cute name inspired by celebrating the holidays and ringing in the new year.
- Social Lights: slate grey with warm amber shimmer
- Suit and Tied: sand beige
- Be Cherry: bright crimson red
- Ring In The Bling: ruby red shimmer
- New Year, New Hue: rich magenta purple
- On Your Mistletoes: deep oxford blue
As soon as I saw the collection, I was instantly drawn to Social Lights, which was unlike anything I had ever seen before (I didn’t think that was even possible anymore)! It’s such a beautiful grey with a warm amber reflect, creating an unexpected—yet absolutely beautiful—mixture of cool and warm tones. It’s a bit hard to capture its beauty in a photo, so just trust me on this one! I also love Ring In The Bling, because you can’t ever have too many reds and this one had a touch of golden shimmer than made in stand out to me.
Be Cherry and New Year, New Hue are both pretty classic shades for the holiday season and On Your Mistletoes is a bold addition that would be stunning for a New Years Eve look, paired with a shimmery silver dress or jewelry.
Unfortunately, I just didn’t get along very well with Suit and Tied. I think it’s a pretty shade—a warm, mid-tone beige—but it just didn’t wear well with my skintone. I don’t think it jives very well with the rest of the collection either, but that could just be because I’m biased. I would have loved to see a fun, glittery gold, silver or champagne instead.
