Get The Look: Twiggy Tease

Believe it or not, this makeup faux pas that we typically try to avoid was actually all over the runways for Spring. Yep, that’s right—clumpy, spider-y, doll-like lashes are one of Spring’s trendiest looks. Lashes were used like an accessory on the runways of Marni, Daks, Thomas Tait, Mary Katrantzou and more.

These doll-like lashes don’t have to be scary, in fact, they can be quite cute and flirty. With a modern twist on a 60s look, we’ve taken inspiration from the iconic Twiggy gaze and combined it with current runway trends. Keep scrolling to learn exactly how to get this look!

  • Step 1: Perfect Base

When combining any sort of grungy, messy or imperfect makeup techniques, you want to make sure your skin is supremely flawless to keep the overall look clean. I used Dior Diorskin Forever Perfect Makeup on Alex, which evens out the skin and lasts all day and minimizes pores for an airbrushed finish.

  • Step 2: Shadows Be Gone

I used the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer under the eyes to conceal dark circles and brighten up the center of the face. I used my finger to blend the concealer into the skin.

  • Step 3: Lit From Within

To give the skin a luminous glow without any shimmer, I used the new Benefit Dandelion Shy Beam on the tops of the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, and in the middle of the forehead. This product helps to reflect light while leaving the skin with a matte texture.

  • Step 5: Groomed & Gorgeous

Alex already has gorgeous eyebrows, so I didn’t want them to compete with the dramatic lashes. I simply used the Urban Decay Brow Tamer Gel in Clear to groom them and hold them in place.

  • Step 6: Lash Attack

To create the doll-like lashes, I first started off by gluing individual false lash flares onto the lashline, leaving a bit of a space in between each set. I used the Make Up For Ever Lash Show lashes in N-602, which added a bit of length while still looking natural.

  • Step 7: Tweezer Technique

After the individual lashes dried well, I coated the lashes with the L’Oreal Voluminous Superstar Red Carpet Black Mascara—which is a 2-step process. First, I applied the white primer to the lashes which helps to build thickness and volume, then I followed up with the black mascara. While the lashes were still tacky, I took Tweezers and clumped the lashes together where I placed the false flares. The trick is to make sure the very tips of the lashes are stuck together, but not the base.

  • Step 8: Think Thin

To finish the eyes, I used the Maybelline Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil to create small vertical strokes along the lower lashline. I then applied the same mascara to the lower lashes, and used the same tweezer technique to clump them in the areas where the eyeliner was drawn on.

  • Step 9: Gloss ‘n Go

To finish off the look, I applied the MAC Huggable Glass in Marvellush to the lips. This formula gives just the right amount of color, tons of shine yet no stickiness at all.
