Giorgio Armani Face & Eye Bliss Palette in No. 1

The Giorgio Armani Pop Collection for Spring 2013 includes the beautiful Giorgio Armani Face & Eye Bliss Palette in No. 1 ($88 USD / $95 CAD), a gorgeous double-decker palette filled with three satin eyeshadows and one coral blush. This limited edition collection, inspired by luminous, euphoric color on a canvas of sheer neutrals, is available February 2013 at Giorgio Armani counters!

This face & eye palette is very similar to the recent, similar palettes from previous collections with one difference; the compact packaging is white. It retains the same double-decker housing with an interior mirror, but I think that the white packaging was such an excellent choice to really make the colors pop and look even more perfect for the Spring season.

The palette includes…

  • Coral Blush: The top compartment is filled with a single, large face powder in a pink-coral hue. The satin texture gives a gorgeous, natural glow to the cheeks. The powder is quite sheer, however it layers beautifully and leaves the complexion with a fresh Spring flush.
  • White Eyeshadow: An icy, silver-y white shade with a pearlescent finish. The inner corner’s best friend for giving a pop of neutral brightness.
  • Grey Eyeshadow: A mid-tone pewter grey with a hint of silvery taupe shimmer. A great neutral shade; a little more sheer than expected though.
  • Blue Eyeshadow: A bright pop of aqua blue; less pearlescent than the other shades, but still with a glowy finish.

My was totally excited about the palette when I first laid eyes on it- one of my favorite looks to do in the Spring and Summer is a ‘pop’ of color with a very neutral canvas, aqua blue usually being amy color of choice. After playing around with the palette, I’m still loving it, but the excitement died down a little.

The color are more sheer than you’d expect- however they are meant to be that way. I think one of the biggest misconceptions of the beauty community is that sheer = bad. Sheer does not mean bad quality. Some products are meant to be sheer, and this is one of them. Washes of color, hints of pearl… it’s one of the top trends this Spring. If you really want to make the colors pop, try using a white base like the NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk beforehand.

Having said that, the sheer finish isn’t what really made me less excited about this palette… it was the lack of variety in texture.  All of the eyeshadow shades (and blush shade, for that matter) are satin. The white and grey are a little more pearlescent than the blue, but they all still have a reflective finish. If the white or grey would have been matte, this palette would have nestled a permanent little place into my heart and makeup bag.

I think the combination of shades is beautiful though- the pinky coral blush gives such a fresh, youthful glow to the cheeks and the neutral eyeshadows paired with the bright pop of turquoise blue is totally on-trend and appropriate for the warm, sunny weather (that I really can’t wait for, by the way).
