Grey Grunge

Get The Look: Grey Grunge

Nothing screams confidence like rocking a bold, unexpected lip color like dark blue, green or grey. These non-traditional lip shades have skyrocketed in popularity and are sure to be one of the hottest makeup trends of the year. Many makeup lovers started to dip their toes into greyish taupes and blackened burgundies last fall and now they’re feeling even more bold.

Case in point, the new grey MAC x Halsey Lipstick launching today as part of the MAC Future Forward collection (which also features launches with Tinashe, Dej Loaf and Lion Babe). This matte grey lipstick is pretty terrifying in the tube but when layered over lips it creates a blue tint that makes it even more show-stopping.

I created this look to complement any non-traditional, bold lipstick, but it works particularly well with MAC Halsey Lipstick. The trick? Keep skin looking clean and contoured, polished brows and defined lashes. Let the lips do the talking for this look.Want to see exactly how to create this look? Keep on scrolling!

  • Step 3: Sculpting Base

I really wanted to have a strong contour for this look and go easy on the blush, so I created a contour base with the new NYX Sculpt & Highlight Face Duo. First I applied the taupe contour shade under the cheekbones and blended upwards with a beautyblender. Available at select drugstores and online at ULTA.

It’s important to use a lip liner when wearing a bold lip color, but grey hues aren’t easy to find. Instead, I used IT Cosmetics Brow Power Super Skinny in Universal Gray to softly line Alex’s lips in preparation for lipstick. Available online at ULTA.
