Hello Kitty Wild Thing Makeup Palette

The cute and cuddly iconic kitty is getting a little wild this holiday season- the Hello Kitty Wild Thing Collection for Holiday 2012 includes the oversized Hello Kitty Wild Thing Makeup Palette ($49 USD / $59 CAD), a tin canister (shaped into none other than Hello Kitty herself) contains 12 eyeshadows, a liquid eyeliner pen and small compact mirror (that looks like a miniature version of the palette). This limited-edition palette is now available at Sephora.

When I first tweeted about this huge palette, a lot of people were dying to get their hands on it. As cute as it is, and as big of a fan of Hello Kitty that you may be, I urge you to just slow down a second to read this review. I’ve never been so confused by a product before… and you’ll see why!

It’s HUGE!

The palette contains 12 large eyeshadows, ranging in sets of purples, neutrals and pastel hues. There’s really only two textures, shimmery (nine of them) and matte (three of them).  My biggest complaint with this palette is that eight of the eyeshadows (the first two rows) are awful; super chalky, barely pigmented, fade within minutes- not hours.

However, four of the eyeshadows (the bottom two rows) are absolutely fantastic! Richly pigmented (even that matte purple), smooth, butter and intense… I honestly couldn’t believe how these eyeshadow groups came from the same palette!

The included mirror is cute, but I think I would have preferred some lipglosses or blushes instead- it’s not like this palette is travel-friendly at all, so there’s really no need for a travel mirror.  I liked the liquid liner a lot too- it’s jet black, easy to use and can make sharp, precise lines. It’s not the best liquid liner I’ve come across.. but I have to say it’s pretty decent and I’m happy to see it in the palette.

When it comes to recommending it? I wouldn’t feel right doing so, because the majority of the eyeshadows are pretty awful… but there’s potential in the bottom four shades.

Summary

  • Price: $49 USD / $59 CAD
  • Availability: Sephora
  • Overall: A very confusing palette; contains eight sub-standard eyeshadows that lack pigmentation, smoothness and durability… but also contains four that are beautifully pigmented, rich and blendable. I can’t recommend it based on the overwhelming cons… but it’s really up to you to make that decision for yourself!

What an adorable palette. The natural shades are lovely!

I’m always super hesitant to try Hello Kitty products because I feel like they’re more gimmick than substance, and I wouldn’t buy them to collect because I never really got into Hello Kitty.

I saw this and it looked so cute, but the palette is HUGE and I’m sad to hear that so many of the shadows are chalky :(

Thanks for your review! I decided not to get it after all… :)

I got it ! And idk but I love it ! They match perfectly with my naked and naked2 palettes and the quality didn’t seem bad to me. Yes they are a tiny bit chalky and very nude.. BUT with a primer and the right brushes, it’s as great as the last four shades. I course the pastels are for lighter everyday use. And the purples for a wild night out! The compact mirror it’s really cute, yes I would prefer a brush, a lip gloss, or blush; but I get so many compliments on it! I don’t mind :) !
