Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette Review

We first caught wind of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit ($80) when we saw it pop up on Instagram a little while ago. At the time, we had yet to start learning about holiday collections and limited edition offerings that would be coming out this fall, so we patiently waited to learn more about whether or not this palette would be launching in North America. When we finally laid eyes on it in person, it was like seeing a unicorn – something that felt like a fabled myth had become reality!

While we’re clearly waxing poetic about this product, it goes without saying that if you’re a fan of Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders (be it face powders, blushes or bronzers), you’ll probably appreciate the curated collection of shades presented in this palette.

There are six pans included with one brand spankin’ new shade that is bound to reel you in, dubbed Iridescent Strobe Light, which is a rose pearl shade that imparts a soft pink glow to the skin. It’s quite shimmery—so we think it would make a stunning highlight powder (as the ‘strobe’ in the name implies).

The other two face powders include Dim Light, the most natural-looking, all over satin beige shade, as well as Diffused Light, a pale yellow-toned powder that brightens the skin and reduces redness too.

Move down to the second row, and you have a trio of complexion-boosting powders including two blushes (the fan-favored golden pink Luminous Flush and plum-toned Mood Exposure shades) as well as one bronzer (Luminous Bronze Light, which is the lighter and slightly-less-shimmery of the two bronzer shades offered by the brand).

The formulations are akin to the full-size offerings, giving users a virtually creamy texture when applied—although the actual sizes are much smaller (we recommend using a tapered blush brush, regardless of which powder you’re using). The powders are all infused with photoluminescent technology to lend a multidimensional finish that gives skin life, never giving a dull or flat appearance. Some are better used all over the complexion (like Dim Light) while others have a specific purpose, be it highlighting or adding color to the cheeks.

This palette is ideal for anyone new to the brand that would like to try multiple product formulations in one go, given you receive a substantial amount of product for the price (value alert!). We’re also pretty confident that just about any makeup fan would love to receive this as a gift. Hourglass has created a cult following of their Ambient Lighting products, and this palette is sure to be the most coveted of them all to date. We recommend grabbing it fast, whether for yourself or for the Holiday season—it won’t last long!

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit is available now online at Sephora (it will be available in stores later this month).
