There aren’t many products out there that I feel are essential to own at least one of in a lifetime, but these Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Glosses ($28 USD / $33 CAD) are one of them. These glosses are one of my favorite formulas- and even though they may not be the best in terms of pigmentation or longevity, I still feel like they are my precious little tubes of lip luxury.
These glosses come in 13 different shades, of which I’ve managed to get my grabby hands on six of them. They vary in terms of texture (cream, shimmer and metallic) as well as pigmentation. Some are super sheer (and they are meant to be) while a few others are opaque.
First of all, I love the packaging. The long, flattened tube just looks so unique (and it’s actually quite functional for keeping in a pocket or small pouch). The applicator is a flattened doe-foot, which is my favorite becuase it picks up more product than usual, and allows the same flexibility of a brush with the ease of a doe foot. The only trouble I run into with these glosses is that the tip is a little flimsy when putting the wand back into the tube (I’m even a little scared I’ll push to hard and snap the tip off)!
The shades I have are…
- Imagine: Peach, champagne shimmer
- Child: Sheer nude
- Origami: Bubble gum pink
- Siren: Metallic red
- Ignite: Rose beige shimmer
- Fortune: Golden pink shimmer
The formula is absolutely incredible. They feel so light and airy on the lips… almost like a mousse. They aren’t very buildable though… so if you’re looking for a full-coverage finish from one of the sheer shades, you’re not going to find it here. The opaque shades like Siren go on with intense pigmentation, while the sheer ones like Child stay sheer, no matter how much you put on. They feel so smooth and creamy on the lips- super comfortable.
The shades are very flattering as well… they look soft on the lips (even bubble gum pink)! They last about 3-4 hours on without eating or drinking… but they luxurious formula is so nice, I don’t mind re-applying! They have a super faint vanilla scent that is lovely, and overall they just feel like a luxurious lip product (not just one with a luxury label).
One thing I do have to say is that with the sheer shimmer shades, several of them do look pretty similar on the lips, so I’m happy to let you know it’s not essential to collect them all. They layer on top of lipstick beautifully or work well alone- my favorite shades are Child (for a nude lip) and Fortune (for a soft, pink shimmer).
