Being blessed/cursed (which ever way you choose to look at it) with poker-straight hair, I never thought that frizz-fighting serums or creams were for me.
Recently, I’ve been trying out two products from John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease line… their famous Secret Weapon Finishing Crème ($5.99 USD) and their brand new Sheer Solution ($9.99 USD). I’m kicking myself now for never trying them earlier.
Sheer Solution
I’ll start off with the new and exciting Sheer Solution. This light dual-phase styling product is formulated for fine-to-medium hair. Many people who have fine hair find heavy creams weigh their hair down too much, and tend to skip them. This new formula contains both a smoothing lotion and lightweight serum (that you shake to mix together).
The directions say to mix the phases together by shaking, then dispense 10 drops into the palm of your hand. Rub palms together and work through damp hair (I like to start at the ends). Not only does it reduce frizz during styling, but it conditions the hair from the inside and delivers nutrients deep down to the strands. It has a light, pleasant smell- nothing too strong though.
My hair isn’t really fine, but because its so straight and limp, I don’t like to use heavy products in it, so this serum is perfect for me! I noticed my hair looked a lot smoother at the ends (where my split ends and flyways are most visible), and it just contributed to a more smoother look overall without feeling like there’s anything in my hair at all! Definitely a new favorite!

Secret Weapon
Next up is the famous Secret Weapon. Unlike the Sheer Solution, this smoothing cream is meant to be used as one of the final steps in hair styling, and should be applied to dry hair (concentrating it on the ends). It is quite thick, so I only use a tiny amount, and really rub it into my palms before touching my hair. I’ve used a similar product like this in the past from TreSemmé, but this one blows it out of the water!
Whenever I blow dry my hair, even though it is pin-straight, I still have some frizz at the ends- and this one not only works beautifully, but it keeps your hair looking great throughout the day! Another neat trick is to smooth your hands over top of your hair after you’ve finished working the product through, and the residue on your hands will give a nice, healthy shine all-over!
RATING: A
Summary
- Price: $9.99 USD (Sheer Solution) and $6.99 USD (Secret Weapon)
- Availability: Drugstores
- Overall: These two new products have secured their spot in my daily routine now! I love that the Sheer Solution leaves no residue or weight- it feels like there is nothing in your hair! The Secret Weapon is awesome for smoothing ends and giving an overall healthy shine to my hair.
