Kat Von D Expands Lock-It Collection

Kat Von D Lock-It

Kat Von D clearly knows what it takes to cover any skin imperfections or discolorations, be it dark circles, birthmarks or tattoos. She introduced the Lock-It Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer sticks earlier this year, and now is adding a creamy concealer, setting powder and several brushes to the family.

The Lock-It collection is all about high-performance makeup and with these new additions, a flawless complexion is even easier to achieve. The original Lock-It Foundation got a sleek packaging update to match the rest of the collection and will be expanding to a total of 30 shades in October 2016 (that’s 13 more shades being added).

Let’s take a look at the new additions!

Concealer Crème

First, we’ll take a look at the new concealers. The Lock-It range already has a concealer, so I’m not sure if this new formula will be replacing the old one but this one seems a little more targeted to the undereye area (while the other formula seemed to be more for face & body).

Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème ($26) is a hydrating formula that delivers full-coverage color that is designed to lock down for 24-hour wear without creasing, cracking or fading. It’s available in a whopping 21 shades, so finding a perfect match is easy. It even includes a pure white shade, White Out, for dramatic looks or to mix with other shades for custom tones. The formula has a luminous, finish and a super smooth texture—perfect for under the eyes.

For me, I didn’t find the concealer was completely crease-resistant on its own. When I set it with the Lock-It Setting Powder (more on that below), it didn’t crease nearly as much (and because it’s so hydrating, the extra powder didn’t dry out my undereye area). A little goes a long way—it covers dark circles instantly and stays put throughout the day really well. I also love the tapered applicator which can be used to apply to a large area quickly or to be super precise when needed.

It does dry pretty quickly on the skin though, so I’d recommend doing one eye at a time and while the new concealer brush worked nicely, I preferred blending it in with my fingers.

Setting Powder

The new Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder ($30) is probably my favorite product of the entire range. This powder is so lightweight, silky and non-drying yet locks makeup in place like magic. It has bluring properties which help to diffuse pores and other texture irregularities on the skin. It looks absolutely amazing in photos, which is why I’ve used it for a couple bridal makeup trials already and I’ll be using it for my friend’s big day!

It comes in one transluscent shade for all skintones and truly leaves no chalky residue behind. More than any other loose setting powder, this one leaves skin looking soft and luminous—not dry and powdery.

Brushes

Four new complexion brushes have been added to the Lock-It family—foundation, concealer and two powder brushes. They have a long, pointed handle and super sleek design.

The Edge Foundation Brush ($34) and Edge Concealer Brush ($24) aren’t like typical foundation and concealer brushes—they each come to a point in the middle, like a mountain. I didn’t receive the concealer brush, but it looks like a smaller version of the foundation brush which I really like. It encourages you to work in small sections, which I think is essential when using these quick-setting formulas.

The Setting Powder Brush ($38) is a large, domed shape and the Precision Powder Brush ($32) looks similar to a traditional foundation brush, but each are quite fluffy (which is great for applying powder). The precision brush is really designed to set undereye concealer, while the larger one is great for dusting over the entire face.

As with all Kat Von D products, the brushes are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. The synthetic fibers are incredibly soft and luxurious, you would almost mistake them for natural hair. While they aren’t absolutely essential to getting the most out of the cosmetic range, they are excellent tools that are worth a look if you’re in the market for quality brushes.
