Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask

Masks scare me.  When I think of an at-home mask, I think of those cheap little ones that would make me break-out like crazy as a teenager… but then I remind myself that there are actually some amazing masks out there, that are almost like at-home facials instead. The Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask ($23 USD / $26 CDN) is one of them. Let me show you!

The Packaging

The mask comes in a good-sized tub, and since mine is the limited edition “Love The Earth” packaging, all net proceeds benefit the Evergreen organization in celebration of Earth Day (which is tomorrow, by the way)!  The twist-off lid reveals the grey mud within (that is what it looks like).

The Product

This mask helps to detoxify skin while minimizing the appearance of enlarged pores at the same time. It’s formulated with Amazonian White Clay, which draws out dirt and toxins from pores while soothing ingredients like oatmeal and aloe vera help calm sensitive skin. The consistency is a lot thinner than I’m used to (I usually reach for my Murad Clarifying Mask on a weekly basis, which is super thick).  As well, the directions state to apply it on damp skin, which allows you to use a very small amount (this tub is really going to last a long time)!  It felt nice and cool on my skin and after about 10 minutes, it’s completely dry and you can rinse it off or use a warm, wet towel.

After removing this mask, my pores were literally invisible (I don’t have super large pores to begin with, but large enough I could see a difference). I couldn’t believe it! Even my blackheads were less visible and my skin looked very smooth and calm (no redness or irritation anywhere)!  My only complaint was that it actually burned my lips quite a bit- I know you’re not supposed to put it on your lips, however a small amount got on them when I was applying it and I didn’t remove it (didn’t think anything of it), but they did feel quite dry and chapped after. So just.. don’t do that.

I don’t think I’ll be getting rid of my Murad Clarifying Mask anytime soon, just because I love the way it absorbs oil and fights acne, but this one is more of an at-home spa treatment that I would also use when I just need a full face detox.

Summary

  • Price: $23 USD / $26 CDN for 5oz / 150mL
  • Availability: Kiehl’s, Nordstrom & other luxury skincare retailers
  • Overall: The perfect alternative to a facial for at-home use.  Feels nice while on, comes off easily and leaves pores refined and skin soft. It didn’t irritate my sensitive skin at all either! Definitely going to keep using it to pamper my skin weekly.
