Look Book: Écailles

Published On March 10, 2012 | Look Book

One of my goals for March is to start playing with makeup more… and photographing it.  I know it sounds silly for someone who has been blogging for several years to not do that… but really, I’ve been so focused on product reviews and testing out different things, that I lost touch with why I fell in love with makeup in the first place- actually creating looks.  I’m not always one to go big and bold, mainly I like doing toned down, wearable versions of trendy looks. So here’s my first start! Feedback welcome…it’s been a while since I’ve done self-portraits! Click on the images to enlarge them in the lightbox :)

This look was inspired by the gorgeous Giorgio Armani Écailles Collection for Summer 2012- beautiful oceanic hues from deep blue to crest white. I decided to pair the bold eyes with a soft cheek and lip to keep it soft and wearable, while still playing up the eyes. Blue eyeshadow isn’t always easy… but when you use several tones and a soft gradation, it helps to create a more artistic look and less of a Mimi effect. Also, I always like use black mascara with blue eyeshadows…it just looks better.
