L’Oreal Paris went all out with their new L’Oreal Colour Riche Eye Shadow Quads ($7.95 USD / $11.99 CAD), available now in 20 different palettes! Each palette contains four expertly-coordinated eyeshadow shades in varying textures, all packaged in a sleek compact.
The palettes have a clear lid, so they lack a mirror… but in a palette so small, the mirror really wouldn’t be useful for anything besides on-the-go touch-ups anyways. The back of each palette explains where to put each shade, which is helpful for those who need a couple makeup pointers!
This new eyeshadow is formulated with micro-pilled pigments suspended in a crystal clear base, so the shades stay true-to-color in the pan and on the skin. They have a very smooth, creamy feel to them- almost like those gel-powder eyeshadows (think MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadows).
The two palettes I have are Sultry Seductress, containing taupe, champagne, deep violet and sparkly charcoal shades and Cookies & Cream, containing satin grey, frosty white, deep grey and sparkly black shades. Overall I was quite impressed with the formula… they really have incredible pigmentation, but can have a bit of fall-out because of their soft texture, so only take a little bit of product at a time.
I found them to be fairly consistent in terms of pigmentation; the satin and sparkle shades weren’t as vibrant as the shimmer shades (which really had an opaque finish), but they were pretty decent. I wasn’t too impressed with the choice of textures though, I feel like there needs to be more mattes than just the ‘eyeliner’ shade. They were too shimmery overall, however I’m not quite sure how the other palettes compare.
They wear pretty nicely but I did experience some creasing without an eye primer, so don’t skip that step with these. Besides that, I was quite happy with the intensity once applied!
