The Drugstore Clay Mask Range You’re Going To Love

L'Oreal Pure Clay Masks

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to visit the L’Oreal Paris laboratories in Paris for the 2016 Skin Summit where I learned all about their innovative approach to testing and formulation (check out my travel diary here if you haven’t yet).

I was able to get a sneak peek at a bunch of new products that would be launching in 2016, including these new L’Oreal Pure-Clay Masks. They are finally here and they’re about to take your multimasking routine to a whole new level.

The new Pure-Clay Mask range includes three different formulas, each made with three mineral clays (Kaolinite, Montmorillonite and Ghassoul) to absorb impurities, purify the skin and improve the complexion texture.

While each mask contains all three clays, they also contain other ingredients for targeted skin treatments. The Purifying & Mattifying Mask (the green one) contains Eucalyptus to unclog pores and reduce shine; the Detoxifying & Brightening Mask (the grey one) contains Charcoal to increase luminosity and detoxify the skin and; the Exfoliating & Pore-Refining Mask (the orange one) contains Red Algae to exfoliate dead skin and tighten pores.

Each clay mask has a creamy texture (although the Exfoliating & Pore Refining one also has a bit of grittiness to it to help resurface the skin) and are packaged in sturdy, glass jars.

When I tried them for the first time in Paris months ago, I was quite surprised at how potent and effective they were. They feel great on the skin and in only about 10 minutes, skin will look soft and matte, pores will look tighter and everything just looks brighter.

I’ve been using the Purifying & Mattifying mask a lot this summer because my skin tends to get much more oily with warm weather, but I also really love the Detoxifying & Brightening mask—the way it dries and visibly soaks up all the sebum and impurities from the pores is just so satisfying (it reminds me of the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD mask).

Of course, you could choose the mask that is most suitable for your skin type and skin concerns, but they are also great for multimasking, one of the hottest skincare trends right now. The concept is all about using different masks for different parts of your face and treating the skin where it needs it.

Here’s my multimasking routine for the Pure-Clay Mask range: Apply the Purifying & Mattifying Mask to the nose and chin to reduce excess oil and shine, apply the Detoxifying & Brightening Mask to the forehead to brighten and detox (especially after a few too many drinks) and apply the Exfoliating & Pore Refining Mask to the cheeks to resurface dull skin and shrink large pores.

L’Oreal Pure-Clay Masks retail for about $13 each and are available at drugstores and online at ulta.com.
