The MAC Glamour Daze Collection for Holiday 2012 includes four MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencils ($$16.50 USD / $20 CAD), including a rich black as well as three blackened pearl shades. I have two of them to show you today. The collection also included three MAC Fluidline ($22 USD / $26.50 CAD) gel eyeliners, of which I have one to show you today, but you can see the full collection here. This large collection has a very sweet, feminine theme with pearl textures, sweet, indulgent hues and glossy black packaging. This limited-edition collection is available now from MAC.
Kohl Power Eye Pencils
I’ll start off with the MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencils– while I think that Feline is a gorgeous, rich black… I’m not a fan of these eyeliners in general. I always found them to be too dry and they tug at my eyelids as I try to apply them. These ones, however, glided on nicely and smudged out perfectly for a nice, smoky look.
The shades I have include Orpheus, a blackened gold pearl, and Mystery, a blackened green pearl. While MAC describes them as ‘intense black’ with pearl- I disagree. They are much more a blackened version of a color, instead of a black with shimmer.
They are beautifully pigmented…but the problem with these eyeliners is that they don’t stay put. I don’t even have oily eyelids, but I found these eyeliners loved to migrate at the outer corners and smudge under my eyes. With all of the amazing waterproof, budge-proof eyeliners out there that come in a wide range of shades and creamy textures, I just don’t care for this particular formula from MAC.
The collection also includes a few MAC Fluidline gel eyeliners, and I have the shade in Catch My Eye, a cool taupe-grey with shimmer. This eyeliner actually looks a lot like one of my favorite cream eyeshadows from Bobbi Brown called Galaxy. I personally wouldn’t use it as an eyeliner though- the shimmery formula and mid-tone grey shade both contribute to a less-than-ideal opacity when applied.
If you’re used to the opaque black of Blacktrack and hoping this will be the same, you’ll be disappointed (although I find this to be the case with the majority of shimmery gel eyeliners). It also glides on a bit chunky.
But… I have to say, I absolutely love it as a cream eyeshadow! It’s a little harder to blend (and sets faster) than a regular cream eyeshadow, but it really does make an excellent stay-proof base. When blended out, it leaves the most gorgeous, sheer glittery sparkle on the lids without any fall out!

- Overall: The Kohl Power pencils are beautifully pigmented, although I think they are more ‘colored’ than MAC made them sound. Unfortunately it’s not my favorite formula, however it is much more soft than I remember it being. It doesn’t stay put very well on my eyelids… so I’m just not a fan unless you’re going for a smudged/smoky look. The fluidline is a gorgeous grey with sparkle, and although I’m not a fan of it as an eyeliner, it does make a great cream eyeshadow / base.
