MAC Guilty Passions Holiday 2012 4 Lavish Rose Lip Gloss

The MAC Guilty Passions Collection for Holiday 2012 includes three Lip Gloss Sets ($32.50 USD / $38.50 CAD) and three Crushed Metal Pigments Sets ($32.50 USD / $38.50 CAD). Each set contains four mini lip glosses or four mini crushed metal pigments, each packaged in a cute & feminine round box.  I have one of the lip gloss sets to show you today, but you can also see the rest of the collection here.

This collection of miniatures is a classic, annual tradition from MAC with a very sweet, feminine theme this year. This limited-edition collection will be available online on November 1st, in stores in North America on November 8th and in stores Internationally in November 2012.

The MAC Guilty Passions 4 Lavish Rose Lip Gloss Set contains four beautiful pink glosses in a variety of MAC textures. This is different, as usually we’ve seen a variety of traditional Lipglass shades (maybe a Lustreglass in the mix), however this year they are no where in sight.  These collections feature a variety of Dazzleglass Creme, Cremesheen Glass and Dazzleglass formulas.

The shades include…

  • Demure (Dazzleglass Creme): Warm pink with a subtle blue pearl
  • Going Casual (Cremesheen Glass): Sheer lilac pink
  • Boys Go Crazy (Dazzleglass): Deep amethyst with multi-color sparkle
  • Color Saturation (Cremesheen Glass): Dark, cool wine cream

The tubes are smaller than the full size versions of each formula, however they are about the size of a traditional MAC Lipglass (I like this a lot, because they don’t really seem like “mini” glosses).  Each gloss features a glossy black cap, white writing and a black bow design down one side of the gloss.

As the collections feature different formulas, so do they feature different applicators. Cremesheen Glass formuals feature a traditional doe-foot applicator, however Dazzleglass Creme and Dazzleglass formulas have a brush-tip applicator. I don’t really favour one over the other, and I do like seeing the variety! Both are easy to apply.

While I do like the combination of colors and textures (some are creme finishes, and some have more sparkle), I did feel like Boys Go Crazy was a bit out of place. Usually these gift sets are quite universal and easy-to-wear, but I found this deep purple shade to be quite bold, and a little harsh. While I do love the color, I think that it’s not something that everyone would love (it’s very purple).  The other shades were pretty nice though, with the two lightest ones being sheer-to-medium and the deeper shades being medium-to-full coverage.

For those that aren’t a fan of the typical ‘sticky’ feeling you get from MAC Lipglass, you may find favor in these sets. The Dazzleglass Creme and Cremesheen Glass formulas are completely non-sticky, so although they don’t last as long as usual (and they are a bit more sheer), they are wonderfully comfortable and moisturizing.

I do miss the regular MAC Lipglass formula in these sets, just because they are my favorite and I always looked forward to getting a bunch of minis from the holiday sets (which usually come with 5 instead of 4)… but I’m willing to give these cute sets a chance- just make sure you pick out a set that you’re in loving with all of the colors.

Also, the box. Can I just say how cute it is!? Once you remove the insert… it makes for a beautiful storage box (I put it aside for storing something… I just haven’t figured out quite yet what it will be)!

Summary

  • Price: $32.50 USD / $38.50 CAD
  • Availability: MAC (November 2012)
  • Overall: I’ve always been in love with MAC’s miniature lip gloss sets from the Holiday collections- and I do like the fact that they are switching up the textures! Less sticky glosses, bigger sizes (still ‘mini’ though) and adorably cute packaging. The glosses are beautiful as well- just make sure to pick a set that you love all the shades from. I do miss the traditional Lipglass formula in these, but I’m willing to give a change a try!
