The highly-anticipated MAC collaboration collection with Mariah Carey has finally arrived. Well, technically it arrived online last week but it will be hitting stores on December 15th. The collection is packed to the brim with dazzling silver glitter, shimmering gold champagne and embossed butterfly accents—it’s exactly what you would expect to see from Mimi (and to be honest, it’s nearly impossible to look away from).
The MAC x Mariah Carey Collection features a whole array of gorgeous products for lips, eyes, cheeks and even body! The special-edition packaging sparkles like diamonds (it’s SO hard to capture that shimmer in a photo, so just trust me—it’s glorious) and the soft pink, champagne and gold hues are right up my ally. Thanks Mariah Carey for curating a collection that I’m obsessed with across the board, and judging by the response on social media, so are A LOT of other fans!
I have most of the collection here to show you, so let’s take a look!
The palettes feature a special-edition champagne gold and silver compact that makes them even more eye-catching. The two palettes include It’s Everything, which is more of a cool-toned, taupe-y palette as well as I’m That Chick You Like, which has more warm, golden hues.
It’s Everything includes Diamond Butterfly, I’d Give My All, Images of Rapture and Twinks eyeshadows. It’s definitely my favorite of the two, mainly because I’m more into cool-toned, taupe shades.
I find the burgundy hue really adds a special touch to the palette and complements the other shades perfectly. The white gold eyeshadow is a tad chunky—so beware of fall-out! It really is more of a finishing touch to add some sparkle rather than a key shade itself, though.
I’m That Chick You Like includes Whenever You Call, Can’t Escape Me, Golden Petals Scattering and How You Thrill Me. This palette features more of a golden bronze array, yet I still found the shades to be incredibly impressive.
Once again, a chunky glitter warning, but for those who like a good golden smoky eye, this palette will surely become a favorite (especially with that rich espresso brown)!
The collection also includes a Liquid Eye Liner in This Is My Night, a deep chocolate brown. I’ve never really been a fan of MAC’s liquid eyeliner formula—I think it’s mainly the applicator I have trouble with, but I just find there to be many other options out there that are a bit more user-friendly. The shade is quite gorgeous though, and the champagne packaging is a really beautiful touch.
Finally, the collection includes two pairs of Eye Lashes—I have the pair in Don’t Shame Me, which are great for a glam holiday look—as well as a jazzed-up 239 Eye Shader Brush (my favorite makeup brush OF ALL TIME—everyone needs one)!
The packaging of the Lipsticks will 100% make your heart skip a beat—these tubes shimmer like a Swarovski crystal store. Each Lipstick has an engraved butterfly motif in the bullet, but the ones I have here were early press samples and lack the engraved design (I do have one you can see down below for reference though).
The Lipstick shades include Bit of Bubbly (pale nude pink), Dahhlinggg! (peachy pink), I Get So OOC (shimmery brown), MCizzle (cool peach) and All I Want (the only one I don’t have, which is a frosted champagne shade). For the most part, they are quite sheer, but I like them that way becuase it makes them much more wearable. If you’re into pale nude lips, you’re bound to make one of these shades your new go-to.
The Lipglasses also comes in special packaging—the tube is slightly bigger than usual (it reminds me of the Cremesheen Glass tubes) and has a beautiful silver glitter cap. The rest is the same you already know and love though, including the doe-foot applicator, long-lasting texture and delicious vanilla scent.
The shades include Rainbow Interlude (soft white shimmer), Butterfly Bling (pinky bronze shimmer—also only available online), Dreamlover (pink shimmer), Little Miss Monroe (gold shimmer) and It’s Just Like Honey (tan shimmer). These shades are also quite sheer, but with the amount of shimmer and glitter packed into them, I’m happy to use them as a sparkling top coat (my fave combo is Dahhlinggg! and Dreamlover)!
Finally, two Pro Longwear Lip Pencils round up the lip portion of the collection, including New Ombre (a cool peach) and So Dramatique (a deep, burgundy brown). I found the lip pencils to be a bit of an odd addition, considering there aren’t really any lip colors to match in the collection, but they are still a fantastic, long-lasting formula so if you’re into the color then you won’t be disappointed.
The Extra Dimension Skinfinish in My Mimi is quite unlike anything MAC has ever launched before—it features an embossed portrait of Mariah Carey herself (well, a cartoon version, but still)!
It’s a warm, bronzy gold that goes on quite sheer, so even lighter skin tones can pull it off. It adds a beautiful luminosity to the skin (and also would be great for dusting along the shoulders and legs—but there’s something a little more suited for that later on).
The Powder Blushes include You’ve Got Me Feeling (a light, cool pink) and Sweet Sweet Fantasy (a coral peach), both of which are satin-y textures with great pigmentation—a little goes a long way! They are both pretty standard, universally-flattering shades and go along with the whole warm and cool tone options the collection offers.
Finally, the collection also contains a super-sparkly Loose Powder in Touch My Body, a sheer champagne that makes skin look luminous and gorgeous like a Victoria’s Secret model, and also a 183 Buffer Brush, which is great for applying the highlight powder, blushes or loose powder (although that one does come with its own poof).
Overall, I’m smitten. First of all, the packaging is to die for—it’s really the nicest specia-edition packaging I’ve ever seen from MAC (not tacky at all) and maybe Mariah and I just have a similar taste in makeup shades, but I’m pretty happy to see a variety of soft nudes, shimmering champagnes and pale pinks becuase those are my JAM. As much as I appreciate a good artistic collection, this one is totally wearable, elegant and flattering.
Have I mentioned the sparkle is EVERYTHING?!
