- RiRi Woo: Matte cool red (Retro Matte)
- Nude: Cool, nude cream (Matte)
- Who’s That Chick: Mid-tone orange with frost (Frost)
- Talk That Talk: Matte, dark plum (Retro Matte)
This four lipsticks come in special-edition, metallic rose-gold tubes with RiRi’s signature on both the packaging and engraved into each bullet. Once again, I find that the packaging looks better in photos, and slightly cheap in real life (just IMO).
The collection features a pretty distinct variety in shades, first off with the much-loved RiRi Woo (which was launched earlier this year and sold out in a record-breaking 3 hours); if there’s one thing from the entire collection I would recommend, it’s this lipstick. The Retro Matte texture is the mattest of the matte (it was even hard to photograph a lip swatch because there was literally zero shine). It feels drying on the lips, it’s a little harder to apply (it’s almost like applying pure, dry pigment to your lips) but it lasts like no other without transferring, smudging or getting on my teeth. If I could only have one matte red lipstick forever, it would be this one. Having said that, it’s probably going to sell out in even less time when this collection goes live, so you’re going to want to line up (whether in store or online) to get one.
The other shades, while pretty, just didn’t impress me nearly as much. Nude was a very deep nude, and while I didn’t find the brownish tone too flattering for my light skintone, I think many others with deeper skintones will love it. I was surprised to see it’s a matte texture, because it seemed slightly glossy (but maybe that was just in comparison to the Retro Matte formula).
Who’s That Chick is a serious frosted orange. It feels nice on the lips, but you’ve got to love two things; a) high-frost shimmer and b) tangerine orange lips. If you fit the bill, you’ll love this lippie.
I know there’s a lot of buzz out there over Talk That Talk, a lovely deep plum Retro Matte shade (the one RiRi appears to be wearing in the promo photo), but I disliked it most out of the four unfortunately. It applied very patchy on the lips, and that coupled with the dry texture, just made it really difficult to apply and get an even look. It was much more difficult than RiRi Woo (which actually applied very evenly), despite being the same texture. The shade was phenomenal though, I just wish the application was a bit easier.
