MAC Shop MAC Cook MAC Lipsticks Review, Photos & Swatches

Published On February 11, 2012 | Reviews

I went a little lip crazy with the latest MAC Shop MAC Cook MAC Collection which just launched last Thursday… I had some MAC empties burning a hole in a bag, and I thought I’d trade them in for some new, spring-ready lipsticks ($14.50 USD / $17.50 CDN each)  I picked up three of the shades, so let’s take a look!

The Packaging

I’m always a little hesitant with MAC packaging, simply because I think there’s a fine line between funky and tacky- but this one was so fun! I love all the bright colours of the sleeves, yet the actual products were still traditional black packaging.  Each lipstick comes in encased in a colourful patterned sleeve, which when pulled out resembles just a classic lipstick box and tube.  The boxes clearly state the finish of the lipsticks as well, which is handy!

The Product

I’m already a huge MAC Lipstick junkie- I really think they win the award for the best lipsticks because of the range of colours, textures and their (relative) affordability for the amazing quality.  They all have the classic hint of vanilla scent that MAC lipsticks traditionally come with (which I LOVE by the way).

Some lipsticks are more pigmented than others, or smoother than others, but it really varies depending on the finish/texture of the lipstick (so keep that in mind when you think your Lustre finish has next to no payoff).  Each of these lipsticks has a different finish, so I’ll go over my thoughts on each formula individually.

The Colors

Naughty Sautée

Naughty Sautée is a beautiful cool pink shade in the Cremesheen formulation (my absolute favorite… lovely pigmentation with a slight sheen).  This shade is definitely my favorite out of them all, just because its so “me” yet is still a tad bold.  The formula is the perfect hybrid of comfort meets pigmentation/longevity (usually you have to pick a side).  This lipstick can be “dabbed” on for a more sheer, hint of color or applied normal for a bold pop of bright baby pink.

Watch Me Simmer

Watch Me Simmer is a spicy coral pink shade in the Amplified formulation (a super pigmented finish).  This one is probably the most ‘out of my comfort zone’ because I just recently started sporting coral/orange shades, but being one of the hottest colours this season, it shouldn’t be too difficult.  Make sure to have well-exfoliated and hydrated lips for this one, and don’t skip the liner!

Quick Sizzle

Quick Sizzle is a bright fuchsia shade in the Matte formulation (a first for me)!  While the bold shade is totally trendy, the matte finish is a huge switch up to someone who is used to gloss or at least the regular sheen from a lipstick.  It definitely feels more drying, but it lasts the longest and really packs an intense punch.  Prime lips or make sure to put a little bit of lip balm first for a little extra comfort.

You can see that all three of the lipsticks have incredible pigmentation and a bold punch of color.  I’d definitely recommend wearing these with a lip pencil or at least applying with a lip brush.  I’m happy I chose these shades because I really needed to update my MAC Lipstick collection (which consisted of four, shameful…right?) and these were the perfect addition!  Stay tuned next week when I film the video so you can see them in action!

Summary

  • Price: $14.50 USD / $17.50 CDN
  • Availability: MAC
  • Overall: In love with the incredible quality, pigmentation and value of MAC lipsticks as always, and these shades are the perfect addition to update my Spring makeup! Quick Sizzle is a tad dry for my liking because it’s matte, but the striking shade is just too beautiful to pass!
