Such a legendary powder foundation this one is… in fact, one of the first products that I ever tried from MAC! It’s the MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation ($27 USD / $32 CDN), and its a dream come true for normal-to-oily skinned ladies- let’s take a look!
The Packaging
The product comes in a nice satiny black compact (similar to that of Studio Tech) with a decent sized mirror on top and a hidden compartment in the bottom that holds the applicator sponge. It’s sleek and looks awesome in any makeup bag. The sponge could probably be a little higher quality- something thicker or more dense (something like the CoverFX PowderFX’s sponge).
The Product
The powder, shown here in shade N4, is silky smooth and glides on so effortlessly and covers beautifully. For a powder, its one of the most pigmented foundations I’ve found. It’s particularly helpful for those with discolorations (age spots, acne scars, redness, etc) and with oily skin, because it leaves a super matte (yet flawless) finish to the skin. It’s light as air, allowing your skin to breath and feel free (a huge problem for many people who detest liquid foundations). The shade range from MAC is also quite impressive, so there’s a shade for everyone. I like how you can control the coverage, using a fluffy powder brush for a light hint of color or using a sponge for a full-coverage finish.
I used to love this product for my oily skin, and I still reach for it in the summer months when I get a little shiny throughout the day, however dry skin ladies, beware- it’s not too friendly on dry spots and patches. When using a powder foundation in your makeup routine, exfoliation and hydration is super important no matter what your skin type, and if you do see a bit of “dryness” then you can spritz a stippling brush with a hydrating spray like MAC Fix+ and pat it on over top.
Summary
- Price: $27 USD / $32 CDN
- Availability: MAC
- Overall: One of the best powder foundations on the market, especially for normal to oily and oily skins because of its flawless matte finish and variable coverage options. Can look a little drying and the sponge isn’t the highest quality, but if you’re in the market for a powder foundation definitely check this one out!
