MAC Summer 2013 Baking Beauties Lipsticks Review, Photos & Swatches

MAC Summer 2013 Baking Beauties Lipsticks

The MAC Baking Beauties Collection for Summer 2013 features four MAC Lipsticks ($15 USD / $18 CAD) of which I have two to show you today. This limited-edition collection features sweets-inspired shades and textures, from cupcake-like designs to soft, confectionary colors. The collection is available online April 11, 2013 and will hit stores April 18, 2013 (North America) & May 2013 (International); see the full collection here!

MAC Lipsticks have always been a favorite of mine; the vast selection, the texture variety and of course, the consistent high quality. These lipsticks come in the traditional MAC Lipstick packaging with the signature vanilla scent. The two shades I have from the collection are Pure Decoration, a Cremesheen texture, and Devil’s Food, a Frost texture.

Pure Decoration is a light, white peach nude lipstick. The Cremesheen texture gives it great pigmentation with a nice sheen to it, so it’s comfortable but still fairly long wearing. This lipstick really settled into my lip creases quite fast, but there’s just something about it that I really liked… it’s a very peachy nude, so I think it’s perfect for Spring and I really don’t have anything quite like it. A good, wearable nude lipstick is quite hard to come by… but this shade would be great for fair-to-light skin tones, and the peachy undertone is a nice twist from the traditional pink or neutral undertone.

Devil’s Food is a glossy, deep plum shade- so glossy in fact, I was so surprised to see it was a Frost texture. Usually Frosts have a metallic, light-reflecting iridescence to them, but this one was quite glossy- glossy like you would expect from a Glaze lipstick. I wasn’t so fond of this lipstick; I found the shade to be really pretty, but it went on so patchy! You can see how patchy it was in the swatch photos… the color just didn’t go on evenly, but after blending a bit and smooshing my lips, the color evened out and looked quite nice. A little confusing, but decent in the end.

I’d recommend Pure Decoration to those who love nude lips and want to give a peachy nude a try. Pass on Devil’s Food unless you can’t find a color dupe- the texture of this lipstick was just too odd to fall in love with.
