The MAC Taste Temptation Collection for Winter 2012 includes three MAC Mattene Lipsticks ($15 USD / $18 CAD) and three MAC Lipglasses ($15 USD / $18 CAD), each a shade of purple or pink that follows along with the sultry, purple-based theme. I have two Mattene Lipsticks and one Lipglass to show you today, but you can see the rest of the collection here.
The entire collection is all about seduction, with alluring shades and sultry pops of color. This limited-edition collection will be available December 13, 2012 (North America only).
I’m extremely happy to see the MAC Mattene Lipsticks making a re-appearance in this collection as they are one of my absolute favorite MAC lip products ever! The texture is a beautiful semi-matte finish with excellent pigmentation. I have been playing with Nocturnal Instincts, a mid-tone lavender grey, as well as Seductive Intent, a vivid magenta purple.
These lipsticks come in a long, slim tube which is very different from the regular MAC Lipstick line (but identical to the now-discontinued Slimshine Lipstick). Mattenes are the lovechild between a Cremesheen and a Matte lipstick. They have a slight sheen (which can easily be blotted away with a tissue if you really want a pure matte look) and they feel ultra comfortable on the lips.
They last about 3-4 hours on the lips without needing touch-ups, and fade gracefully (unlike many matte textures out there that get very patchy). Definitely not the longest-lasting… but still pretty impressive.
The collection also contains a few purple-based MAC Lipglasses, including this one in Good Times, which is a pale greyish mauve cream. I didn’t think I was going to like this shade when I saw it in the tube- it almost looked like a concealer! It went on surprisingly well, although it is very pale. It also does have a milky texture which enhanced lip lines a bit (but it really looks better in real life than it does in the macro swatch).
All in all, not the most flattering shade, but definitely a lot more wearable then I thought it was going to be. Give it a try if you’re intrigued!
MAC Lipglasses are thick, sticky and have a lot of substance to them- which I really like. It makes them long lasting and I feel confident my gloss isn’t going to migrate all over my mouth area… however I do know that some don’t like sticky lipglosses, so stray away from the original Lipglass formula if you’re one of them.
