The MAC Tropical Taboo Collection for Summer 2013 includes two MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencils ($16 USD / $19 CAD). This limited-edition collection features a beautiful array of glowing, mineralized products and bold, tropical hues. Available online now and in store June 26, 2013 (North America), July 2013 (International excluding China) & August 2013 (China) at MAC.
The two shades in the collection are Orpheus, which is described as an intense black with gold pearl, and Feline, a matte jet black. We saw Orpheus launch with the Glamour Daze Collection for Holiday 2012, and Feline has been a best-selling permanent shade for MAC for a long time now.
I find Orpheus to be more of an antiqued gold on the skin, with almost a bronzy tone to it. Feline is just as described; rich, matte black. Both are ultra pigmented and smudge beautifully for a smoky look (just like most Kohl eyeliners do), however I find they are quite difficult to apply and tug at the skin quite a bit because of their hard texture.
They line the waterline really nicely, and there’s a lot of merit to why Feline is one of MAC’s most popular eyeliners… but they just aren’t for me. I find they migrate and smudge throughout the day, leaving me with racoon-eyes. They just don’t have the waterproof and budge-proof qualities that I’ve come to expect from eyeliners these days. They do create gorgeous, dramatic looks that would be fantastic for a photoshoot or special event, but for everyday wear I just prefer to opt for something with a little better performance.
As much as I love the intensity of these colors… I just don’t love racoon eyes by 4pm.
