MAC Tropical Taboo Mineralize Skinfinish in Lust Review, Photos & Swatches

MAC Tropical Taboo Mineralize Skinfinish in Lust

The MAC Tropical Taboo Collection for Summer 2013 includes five MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes ($30 USD / $35 CAD), in beautiful, celestial-looking shades with colored veining. This limited-edition collection features a beautiful array of glowing, mineralized products and bold, tropical hues. Available online now and in store June 26, 2013 (North America), July 2013 (International excluding China) & August 2013 (China) at MAC.

The Mineralize Skinfinish that I have from the collection is Lust, a gorgeous cranberry shade with pale pink veining and pink shimmer. MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes (and all other Mineralize powders with veining) are all unique- they have different veining patterns and sometimes you’ll get more of one shade than another which can really affect the final result. If you go to a store, you can ask to see different ones to ensure you choose one that has the amount of color you desire.

Mineralize Skinfinishes can be used in a variety of ways to enhance the complexion, but their main purpose primarily depends on the shade of the powder and veining.  They can be blushes, eyeshadows, bronzers or highlighters- but one like Lust would be best suited as a blush because of it’s pink tone and very shimmery finish. These powders have become a cult classic in the beauty community, with some being highly-coveted collector’s pieces. I personally am not a huge fan of MSFs, simply because I find them to be way too shimmery for my liking (I really only like the ultra-pale ones that can be used as highlighters).

They have a beautiful, celestial look to them but it’s important to remember that what you see isn’t necessarily what you get- the marbeling of different shades may result in a different tone than you see in the compact. MSFs are usually quite pigmented, but can be a little chalky too. Lust is fairly true to shade, but it has a lot of pink shimmer when applied on the skin. It has a very beautiful dusty rose hue that looks great as a blush! I do find it lasts the majority of the day on the skin- a small touch-up may be needed if you’re going from morning to night, but for daily wear they should work fine. Also remember they are very fragile products, so be careful when travelling with them.
