MAC Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow in Smokeluxe Review, Photos & Swatches

MAC Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow in Smokeluxe

The MAC Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow Collection for Summer 2013 includes the MAC Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow in Smokeluxe ($40 USD / $47.50 CAD), a smoky-hued eyeshadow palette with five different shades and textures.  This limited-edition collection features six color-themed eyeshadow palettes in a new wet/dry formulation. Available June 13, 2013 (Online), June 20, 2013 (North America) & August 2013 (International) at MAC.

Smokeluxe contains a satin beige, a sparkly taupe, a shimmery champagne, a metallic steel blue and a matte charcoal black. While they are all smoky hues, this palette really has the most variety in color out of them all. I also found that this palette was the best dry and looked pretty much just as pigmented and vibrant as it does when used wet. If you really want to take advantage of the ‘dry’ just as much as ‘wet’ in wet/dry, then this one is for you. Using them wet just gives them a little more of a smoother, creamier texture.

Note the size

These eyeshadows are quite different from MAC’s regular eyeshadows. They feel like Veluxe Pearl eyeshadows when you touch them, but they almost look like Mineralize Eye Shadows on the skin with ability to be used wet. You can use the matte/satin shades wet, however I find they just get a little clumpy and muddy so I recommend just to use them dry. The shimmery and sparkly shades look incredible when wet though!

You can spray a brush with a little water or mixing medium, but I just go ahead and spray the entire palette. It’s easier and a light mist is all you need to really transform the colors. The only downside of the palette is probably the first thing you noticed- some of the strips are super skinny and getting your pinky finger in there isn’t even possible. I found my Sigma Beauty Performance Eyes brushes to work really well with these palettes because they are so skinny (however it doesn’t make it difficult to apply).

Overall I’m impressed with these palettes. The other reviews will be coming soon (Greenluxe is definitely my favorite and I think anyone else with Hazel eyes will love it too)! I don’t think they are the type of palette that you need to pick up lots of- I would recommend choosing one that you feel most attracted to if you want to try out a new formula from MAC. Are they life changing and essential? No. Are they nice, travel-friendly and contain gorgeous shades? Yes. I’ll leave the rest up to you!
