Our relationship with cream eyeshadows has been rocky in the past. Too often, the saturated hues look amazing for the first 15 minutes, but then start to smear and transfer, taking our look from hot to hot mess.
Thankfully, Make Up For Ever has created a vivid cream eyeshadows to its trusted waterproof range. The new Aqua XL Color Paint ($31) promises to stay put for a solid 24 hours, which is way longer than we ever anticipate needing our makeup to last, but we like the idea of being prepared for anything all the same.
There are 20 shades in total—from basic black, white and beige to intense orange, teal and purple—with finishes that vary between matte, lustrous and iridescent (the shade names have an M-, L- and I- prefix, respectively). We have 15 shades to show you from the range below.
The creams come in squeeze tubes that resemble a tube of acrylic paint (a nod to the brand’s artistic side, of course). While fingers will work totally fine in a pinch for a wash of colour, they are best applied using a brush. For an opaque look, grab a flat brush to lay the pigment down densely, or, for a more diffused effect, go with a fluffy brush.
You can wear the colours as regular shadow, liner, or as a base for your favourite powder hue (dust a regular eyeshadow over the white paint to really boost the colour’s brightness). If you want to wear more than one Aqua XL Color Paint at a time, just wait for the product to dry between layers.
Often, long-lasting makeup can end up feeling really dry (*cough, liquid lipstick, cough*), but these shadows are formulated with mango butter for comfy wear. Whether you’re planning a day at the beach (we’re making the most of you, summer) or just really want your makeup to be locked in all day and night, you’re going to love these budge-proof paints.
Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Color Paints retail for $31 each and are available online at sephora.ca.
