The new Marc Jacobs Beauty cosmetic line includes the Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation ($48 USD / $58 CAD) in 16 radiant shades. Marc Jacobs Beauty will be available exclusively at Sephora and Marc Jacobs stores on August 9, 2013 and is inspired by the spirit of youth, confidence and experimentation.
I’m really liking the packaging of the products in the collection- I find them very sleek and they all flow together. This foundation comes in a rounded bottle with a black lacquered cap that pops off to reveal a pump-top dispenser. I found that I used 2-3 pumps per application, and I liked using a traditional foundation brush best for the job. It has a sheer but buildable coverage (which really does build nicely)- so I started off with a light layer all over and then added more where needed.
The texture was pretty unique too- it felt very light and refreshing! It feels very lightweight on the skin which I liked. The formula is supposed to be an anti-aging, ultra-hydrating texture… yet I found it to grab onto dry patches on my skin, so it left me a little confused. Perhaps because it takes a lot of blending, thanks to the necessity of layering for anything more than ultra-sheer coverage. It didn’t feel tight or drying, but it just wasn’t as moisturizing as I expected it to be. One thing that I really didn’t like about this foundation was the strong fragrance- although it didn’t linger on the skin after I applied it, I found it to be quite strong (similar to Chanel foundations) during the application.
This foundation held up pretty well throughout the day, even without being set with powder as it has a very natural finish. I didn’t find it to fade or get shiny throughout the day, but you may need to use a primer or powder depending on the texture of your skin.
The shade I tried is 14 Ivory Medium, which was one shade lighter than I would have chosen for my summer skin (I think it will be great for my winter complexion though). I think 16 shades is a pretty good start to a foundation range. I feel like Marc Jacobs really brought ‘fashion skin’ from the runway to the beauty counter- his models always have a fresh, light and youthful complexion and this foundation does a pretty good job as long as you don’t need tons of layering.

I really enjoyed the light, refreshing texture of this foundation. It was very sheer, however it was one of the best building foundations I've tried- so getting that 'runway' look with a light layer all over and building were necessary was easy to achieve. It wasn't as hydrating as I thought it would be but it definitely wasn't drying. It left skin with a very natural finish and held up pretty well, although I wasn't a fan of the strong fragrance in it.
