I’ll start off by saying that I didn’t even think Marc Jacobs Beauty needed a new lipstick formula. I fell in love with his original Lovemarc Lip Gel (which sadly, isn’t available anymore) which launched with the brand back in Fall 2013. The new Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Crème ($30) appears to have replaced it—and I’m actually pretty OK with that.
While the old formula was more of a pigmented gel and had a ‘slip’ to it, these lipsticks are definitely rich, velvety creams with a satin finish. The packaging is identical, with a sleek, black lacquered case, magnetic closure and rounded bullet. The lipsticks come in 20 shades, including neutrals, brights and classic reds—all of which are very flattering on a wide variety of skintones.
The formula is a total winner. It has a creamy, rich texture that glides on beautifully with full-coverage color. While it is a long-wearing formula (the brand claims 10 hours—I’d say it’s more like 6-8 hours), it doesn’t compromise on comfort. I actually fell asleep wearing one because I forgot I was wearing it, and to my surprise it still looked fantastic (and so did my pillowcase).
I still have mixed feelings about the shape of the bullet—the rounded shape makes it a little difficult to reach the inner corners of your lips and those with more of a pointed cupid’s bow might also have some difficulty with precision. It’s clearly not a deal-breaker, but it’s just not my preferred shape.
All in all, it’s a fabulous lipstick formula with excellent longevity and comfort. My favorite shades are Georgie Girl (gotta love my pale nude pinks), Dashing (a cool red that takes the cake) and Core Cora (a bright coral). If you’re still missing the old Lip Gel formula, check out the New Nudes Sheer Lip Gels—they may be a little more sheer (and they only come in a few shades), but the texture is very similar to the original.shop this story
