The new Marc Jacobs Beauty cosmetic line includes the Marc Jacobs Perfection Powder Featherweight Foundation ($46 USD / $56 CAD) in 10 radiant shades. Marc Jacobs Beauty will be available exclusively at Sephora and Marc Jacobs stores on August 9, 2013 and is inspired by the spirit of youth, confidence and experimentation.
This powder comes in a gorgeous, sleek black laquered compact with a silver “Marc Jacobs” logo and push-pin opening mechanism. The interior of the compact as a gorgeous, full-size mirror in which I can almost see my full face. It comes with a good sponge and a fabric, snap-closure pouch. I actually love the pouch that it comes in (the blush and eyeshadow palettes do too but just different sizes)! They are much nicer than the typical velvet pouches you see with other high end brands, and I feel like it would be great for organizing things in your purse (makeup, bandaids, q-tips, breath mints, cell phone cables, etc).
I have the shade 120 Ivory, which was way too light for me (hence the lack of a before/after photo… it just looked awful) but I still tested it out for its performance, coverage and texture. First off, it really is a gorgeous powder. It has a very finely-milled texture that blends into the skin really well and looks undetectable. It has the slightest hint of a radiant finish, which I found similar to the NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder (it gave a gorgeous ‘glow’ to the skin without actually being shimmery). It also removed shine nicely and worked for touch-ups without caking up.
The problem is that it is incredibly sheer. At first, I thought it was a simple setting powder (which yes, I would definitely recommend it as such)- however I read that it was marketed as a foundation and that made me a little skeptical. The coverage is probably similar to what you would find in a MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural (perhaps a little more sheer). Some people do use the MSF Natural as a light foundation, but I never found it to offer anywhere near the coverage that I wanted (and layering this powder doesn’t really seem to help).
