The new Marc Jacobs Beauty cosmetic line includes the Marc Jacobs Beauty Style Eye-Con No.3 ($42 USD / $51 CAD) in 6 different palette combinations, including this one in The Rebel. Marc Jacobs Beauty will be available exclusively at Sephora and Marc Jacobs stores on August 9, 2013 and is inspired by the spirit of youth, confidence and experimentation.
This eyeshadow trio comes in a gorgeous, sleek black laquered compact with a silver “Marc Jacobs” logo and push-pin opening mechanism. The interior of the compact has a large mirror and I actually love the pouch that it comes in (the powder and blush palettes do too but just different sizes)! They are much nicer than the typical velvet pouches you see with other high end brands, and I feel like it would be great for organizing things in your purse (makeup, bandaids, q-tips, breath mints, cell phone cables, etc).
This palette contains a frosty beige, a shimmery fuchsia and a matte eggplant purple. I love the packaging, and I think it’s very beautiful the way the shades are laid out. You’ll notice that the shades aren’t all equal in quantity, which I love seeing in palettes because it means they pay attention to how much you’ll use of a certain shade. For example, you’re going to use a lot more of the pale beige shade than the deep eggplant, which allows the palette to go further without running out of one particular shade.
The quality was quite inconsistent though for this particular palette- the beige and fuchsia shades were quite beautifully pigmented, smooth and easy to blend, however the deep eggplant shade was very dry, chalky and didn’t go on with any intensity. It’s quite a shame, because I love the color combination of this palette and I think it could create some pretty dramatic, fun looks. It’s still useable, but it’s quite disappointing- especially at such a luxurious price point. Hopefully some of the other No.3 palettes and No.7 palettes are more consistent!
